Hey guys! So I took a bit of a break and was able to finish it up! I don't really like the way I chose to end this but I hope you guys still enjoy it!! :)
The hustle and bustle of the crowd was quite overwhelming to you. You weren't one to normally attend these kinds of social events even though you'd been working in the Department of Magical Accidents and Catastrophes for quite a while now. You'd been lucky enough to join the Ministry soon after graduating from Hogwarts. It took a few years but now you were more or less happy with what you were doing.
You were currently debating if it was worth it to make your way to the buffet table or to just find a table to sit at. The table required much less walking and there was less of chance of running in to anyone. Not that you were worried about seeing anyone specific. The grumbling of your stomach made that decision for you.
You slowly made your way across the large banquet hall. Each step you took reminded you of why you never liked wearing heels. You'd only worn them because Katie had insisted you should. You only hoped you'd find her at some point tonight, although it didn't seem too likely since Tom had asked her to be his date.
It was only now that you wished you had said yes to Jonathan when he'd asked you earlier in the week. There wasn't really any particular reason why you'd denied his offer, but you knew he genuinely wanted to pursue a relationship with you and that just wasn't something you could give him. There would be time for relationships later and right now you were focusing on yourself. Once you were truly happy with yourself everything would come on its own. Besides, you couldn't put any of your own baggage onto someone else, it just wouldn't be right.
Speaking of baggage, you hoped you didn't find any of it here. The chances weren't high but you didn't know who you'd run into. Everyone from all of the departments was invited. Not that you were worried about anyone specific... you'd come to know so many people over the years, any of them could be here.
You were relieved as the buffet was only a few more steps away, but once you saw who'd be in line before you you weren't sure you wanted to eat anymore. The woman wore an elegant dress with her hair done up in a complicated updo and expensive jewelry adorned her neck. You looked down at yourself with your simple dress and heels, one single bracelet on your wrist. You'd only straightened your hair and worn light make up, looking at her you began to feel a bit inadequate and out of place. It only made sense she'd make you feel that way, even years later. The man whose arm she was holding was easily recognizable by his platinum blonde hair, a Malfoy. You'd heard the rumors, but it made sense that Leta Lestrange would be keeping that kind of company.
Leta turned her head around, smiling at her date and saying something to which he laughed at. You quickly spun around, there was no way she'd caught sight of you, had she?
"(Y/N)!" You heard a familiar voice shouting your name, "(Y/N)!"
Well now you were at the center of attention of everyone in the general area. You covered your face out of embarrassment as you made your way towards Katie, who was practically dragging Tom behind her.
"Katie, Tom," you greeted both of them.
"Hello (Y/N)," Tom waved at you apologetically while Katie engulfed you in a bone crushing hug.
"Oh! You wore the heels!" Katie twirled you around, "And your dress is so beautiful, not to mention your hair and make up! It all comes together so flawlessly."
