"My name is Neve," Neve spat, gripping the they had made her sit in. "I know what this place is and I know who my parent is. But what I didn't know," Neve growled, " is that this idiot was going to attack me with blue paint!" She gestured angrily to Marco.
He threw his hands up in the air in defense. "You scared me!"
"Your face scares me," Neve replied.
Marco raised an eyebrow. "I repeat Wren's words, who is this chick?"
Dionysus turned his head to Neve, gesturing for her to answer Marco's question.
Neve sighed. Did she really have to tell them her identity? She would definitely prefer to keep that a secret.
"My name is Neve," she repeated reluctantly. "I don't know my last name. My mother, Khione, ditched me on the streets when I was twelve. I've been part of numerous gangs, but for the past few months I've been on my own." She paused for breath. "I've been trying to find Camp Half Blood since I was kicked out of my last gang." She paused sheepishly. "I broke the gang leaders nose because he was a pervert." Neve decided to leave out the part where she froze his head to another boy's head.
Neve looked across from her. Dionysus, the centaur, the girl and the idiot. The girl pushed her blond hair away from her face. She was pretty, but Neve didn't care about that.
"So," she continued, "I told you about me. Who the hell are you?" She honestly wanted to know. The need to know more than what Khione had told her about the demigod world was strong.
"My name is Chiron," the centaur said kindly. "I will be your camp counselor."
"Marco," the boy with blue paint on his face said. "Marco Valdez."
"I can already tell you're an idiot." Neve muttered under her breath.
"Wren," the girl with a purple streak in her hair smiled at her sheepishly. She put out her hand to shake. Neve didn't take it.
Dionysus stood up. His face was grave, as dark as stone. The god got up from his chair and walked over to the window. "She was right." Neve heard him whisper to himself. Dionysus looked fairly ridiculous in pajamas, but you could sense his concern.
"The last thing Rachel said to me before she went travelling... She didn't give me a prophecy." Dionysus sighed. "But she did say something about winter and eight demigods and a legacy."
Dionysus gestured to Neve and Wren. "Including you three, there are only nine demigods at Camp. It's winter, and strange things have been happening on Olympus."
Dionysus honestly looked worried. "Chiron, gather the other six. We need to make plans."
* * *
Neve now at a long table with nine demigods and Dionysus. Chiron was writing things out on a chalkboard.
Two boys who sat across from her were pointing and muttering. One even raised his camera, so she middle fingered them, causing the boy to drop his camera and blush. The other boy grabbed the first boy's camera and gave it back to him before it hit the ground.
Dionysus was talking in a hushed voice to Chiron. Both of their faces were dark with seriousness.
"Are you going to tell us anything?" The boy that had caught the falling camera asked. He was tall, much taller than Neve, and muscular. He kind of resembled some of the idiots in her old gang. Son of Ares maybe?
"Be patient, Joel." A girl sitting a few seats down from him said with annoyance. She acknowledged him like he was a naughty kindergartner. Her calculating eyes focused on Chiron and Dionysus.
