Marco lay on one of the lounge's red, pillow covered couches. He fiddled with the tassels on the side of a pillow. The other demigods were chattering but he surprisingly, was silent.
"Hey, you chill?" Kai asked him. The Asian boy was sitting on the back of the couch. The son of Hecate was nineteen, three years older than himself, but they got on well. His hair was unruly, Kai didn't care for it much.
"Yeah, just shocked, y'know?" He replied.
"Totally," Kai said, shaking his crazy bangs out of his eyes. "But it's exciting, right?"
Marco shrugged.
"Oh, c'mon," Kai laughed. "Aren't you at least a little bit excited."
Marco was about to reply to Kai but was interrupted by Neve, the girl he had attacked with paint.
She didn't make a big entrance, but he had to stare.
Neve, it seemed, had cut off most of her thick black hair. It now fell just past her ears, about an inch. It was choppy and messy, but it suited her.
Everyone went as silent as the grave, but she gave them a withering look, causing them to return to chattering. Neve sat down next to Wren on the carpet.
Kai whistled, maybe he was attempting a wolf whistle, Marco didn't know. But he shoved him anyways.
"Dude, shut up!" Marco hissed. "She'll kill you!"
Kai rolled his eyes, then let out a tiny laugh.
They paused their conversation awkwardly. Kai shook his shaggy black bangs away from his face again. "Hey, do you know why Chiron blew up like that?" He asked.
"I dunno." Marco shrugged. "Why do you ask?"
"Well, he's usually really chill about this stuff." Kai replied, looking out the entrance to the lounge.
"True." Marco agreed. He lifted his head. "Hey West, c'mere!" Marco raised his voice to get the son of Aphrodite's attention.
West turned around to face him, stepping away from his conversation with Joel. Marco had formed an unlikely friendship with this boy last summer. He naturally repelled people like this, but apparently Philotes didn't care about that.
West was a classic son of Aphrodite, Marco would like to describe him as handsome, but that was old fashioned.
West was effing hot.
He had red hair, somewhat styled, bright green eyes. He was in between scrawny and muscular.
Marco shook his head, smiling sheepishly. Aphrodite kids have that affect on you, no matter who you were. Marco knew from experience; one of his dad's friends was a daughter of Aphrodite.
"Hey." West said, walking over to them.
"Bro," Kai addressed West. "Did you murder Joel? I can't see him."
Marco rolled his eyes. "We're about to go on a quest, and you're still making that joke?"
Marco gestured in annoyance to Joel, West's boyfriend, who was chatting with Brooklyn and Tasha. Kai had an ongoing joke about Joel not existing.
West rolled his eyes, sitting down next to Kai.
"So, what we really wanted to ask," Marco said, "is d'you know what's up with Chiron?"
West shook his head. "He's probably just stressed, y'know with Kai being his usual asshole self."

A/N Hello children :3 This is Via's note.. Sorry if this chapter is super short. The next one will be longer, we promise. You may have noticed we mentioned 'Philotes' in this chapter. No, that isn't some Phandom reference. Philotes is the Greek goddess of friendship and affection.
