Rebecca's POV

-

The next day

Sam and Colby have been acting weird all morning. They go into the kitchen and I can hear them whispering to each other every now and then. I shrug it off and continue watching Friends.

The two finally return to the living room and sit down on either side of me. I lay my head on Colby's shoulder and he smiles down at me.

"Hey Rebecca?" Sam asks and I sit up and look over at him.

"Yeah?"

"I was wondering, you and I haven't really spent any time together in a really long time. How about we go out and do something today?" He asks and I feel a pang of guilt inside me. Sam is my best friend and I have hardly spent any time with him alone since I've moved in. I've spent it with Colby.

"Yeah sure Sammy," I smile at him and his face lights up.

"Okay then, Colby, that's okay with you right?" Sam questions looking over at Colby and he nods.

"Of course, you guys need to spend some time together," he smiles and Sam and I hop off the couch.

"Okay, we'll be back sometime around six," Sam states and Colby nods. Sam walks over to the door and grabs his keys.

"Bye Becca," Colby says as I wrap my arms around his neck.

"Bye Colbs," I smile.

"Have fun," he smiles and gives me a quick peck on the lips.

"Ah come on, you two are gross!" Sam states jokingly and I roll my eyes at him playfully.

"Whatever," I state and we walk out the door.

"So, where are we going?" I ask him as we ride the elevator down to the lobby.

"Well, I was thinking we could get some lunch then we could maybe explore a little bit, if that's okay with you," he says and I smile at him.

"That sounds awesome!" I say and we walk out the door and hop into Sam's car.

"Sammy, I'm sorry that I haven't been spending time with you, I haven't seen you in years and I feel so bad. I miss hanging out with you," I tell Sam truthfully.

"Don't worry about it Becca. I'm just glad to have you here and that you're happy," he responds. This is why I love Sam so much, he's just like a brother to me.

"Thank you Sam," I tell him and he smiles over at me.

"No problem."

"So, where are we gonna eat?" I ask him curiously as we drive down the road.

"Well, there's this place Colby loves to go to with his friend called Tender Greens. I thought we could go there if you want, or we could go to Chipotle," he says.

"Um, I think I'm down to try something new. I eat at Chipotle all the time," I say with a laugh and he nods his head.  Shortly after, we pull into the parking lot of the restaurant and we get out of the car.

While we eat, we catch up a little bit more. We reminisce on the old memories from back in Kansas and talk about his two siblings Allison and Ben. I've really missed spending time with my best friend.

"So what do you think Colby is gonna all day?" I ask him as I shove a forkful of salad into my mouth.

"I dunno, probably just stay at home and do nothing," he says not looking at me and it almost seems suspicious but I don't question it.

"He really cares about you, ya know?" Sam says and I look up at him and smile. "He does, I haven't seen him this happy in a really long time," he adds.

"Really?" I ask and he nods. "To be honest, I kinda didn't think you would be way too happy about us being together."

"Well, I didn't think I would be either. I just want to protect you," he says in a brotherly tone.

"Yeah, I know. What made you change your mind?"

"Seeing the way you two look at each other, I can tell he makes you happy and as long as you're happy, I'm happy," he states and I smile widely at him.

"Awe Sammy," I gush and he rolls his eyes, smiling after.

"Colby's a good guy, but if he hurts you I'm gonna beat the shit out of him," he declares sternly and I laugh but I can tell he is serious.

We finish eating the rest of our meal and drive around the city for a few hours, stopping every now and then. We walk down Hollywood Boulevard and into some shops along the way.

"It's almost 6:00, you ready to head back to the apartment?" He asks.

"Yeah, I'm ready. Let's go," I state and we begin walking back to the car. The ride is silent for most of the way and after a few minutes, we pull into the parking lot. We walk through the lobby and up the elevator.  When we reach the door to the apartment Sam stops.

"Oh crap, I forgot something in the car. Here," he says handing me the keys and dashes down the hallway. That was weird. After I unlock the door, I hang the keys up on the rack beside the door.

"Colby?" I call. No answer. I shrug and walk into his bedroom and my penny board is on the bed? And is that a rose? As I approach the bed, I notice a note on my board and as I read it, I pick up the white rose laying beside it.

This rose is just one of many you will be getting tonight. Meet me down at the beach at 6:30

-Colby

I smile widely as I read the note. So that's why they've been acting all weird. I still have about twenty five minutes until I'm supposed to meet him so I walk into Sam's room and grab my suitcase. I might as well move it into Colby and I's room anyway, I mean, it only makes sense. I was only wearing shorts and a t-shirt today so I decide that I might as well change. I slip on some black skinny jeans and a white, flowy tank top. I slip on my brown sandals and with the time remaining I choose to touch up my makeup and straighten my hair.

When I'm done, I check the time on my phone, 6:21. I might as well go ahead and ride down to the beach. I grab my penny board along with my purse and phone and head towards the door. Sam still hasn't come in the house yet. Weird. I shrug it off and head out the door, not locking it behind me so he can get in.

When I get to the beach, the sun is setting over the horizon and a cool breeze blows yet the air is still warm. Most everyone has cleared off of the beach except for a few kids playing by the shore here and there. It takes me a second to spot Colby  standing in black skinny jeans and a nice black sweater with a big goofy smile plastered across his face and a bouquet of white roses in his hands.
