Rebecca's POV
—
After about two hours, Colby's parents leave the apartment to check into a nearby hotel. Sam and I are currently sat on the couch, staring at nothing.
"He never mentioned him," Sam says, his voice quiet and confused. "Colby told me everything, but how could he have not told me that?"
"It's really hard to process, but I mean, I'm sure he feels really guilty about it and that's why he never told you," I tell him and he nods his head silently. "But none of that matters right now, we need to figure everything out about this Brian guy that we can."
"You're right," Sam sighs, raking a hand through his messy hair. Looking over at him he doesn't meet my eyes but I can see how upset he is. He gets up and disappears into his room, returning moments later with his laptop.
"What did she say his last name was?" He asks as he logs into instagram.
"Rogers. Brian Rogers," I tell him, watching as he types the name into the search bar on the website. Multiple profiles pop up and he clicks on the first one. Pictures of a man show up on the screen and Sam looks at me and I shake my head. He sighs and we continue looking at their profiles, some of them being private. I can tell Sam is getting more and more frustrated by the minute.
"This isn't working," He groans and I encourage him to continue. After about five more people, he clicks on one more profile. My heart drops to my stomach. Sam looks over me as if asking me if this is the one. My mouth is dry and my throat is tight and I only nod. His eyes go frantic and he quickly turns back to his laptop.
"You're positive this is the guy?" He asks hopefully and I nod again. He scrolls down through the guys profile and his face makes me sick to my stomach. "This could be our first lead! We need to check with Colby's parents though, just to make sure that this is him," Sam states and I nod in agreement. He pulls out his phone, taking a picture of the screen and immediately sends the photo to Colby's father.
We begin to wait, staring intently at the phone screen hoping for a response. Within five minutes a little bubble pops up in the bottom left corner showing that he's typing. I bite my nails in wait for his response, finally getting one single message.
That's him.
Getting up off of the couch and bringing his laptop, Sam and I scurry to throw our shoes on and quickly head out, our feet pounding against the floor and down the hall and out to the police station.
"Hello, I was here a few days ago file a missing persons report on my friend Colby Brock," Sam says as he steps up to the front desk.
"Okay, I believe you talked to Detective Gonzales, I'll go get him," A small lady tells him as she stands up and heads through a door. Seconds later, the familiar face of the person we talked to while filing the report emerges from another room.
"Mr. Golbach, we've been trying to very hard to find your friend, but unfortunately we haven't come up with anything yet." He tells us and Sam and I look between each other and back at the detective.
"I think we might have something."
The detective leads us to his office, gesturing for us to sit down and he closes the door.
"What have you found?" he asks us as he sits down and begins typing on his computer.
"Okay, well this is all we have to go off of right now, so bear with me," Sam says, looking at the man as he nods signaling him to continue. "Before I met Colby he lived in Michigan and was friends with this guy Brian Rodgers, who would be about 24 now. There was an accident and Brian's sister ended up getting killed and he blamed Colby for it. Colby's parents say that Brian got into drugs and things like that and always tried to get revenge on Colby and he just recently got out of prison."
The detective vigorously types away at his computer and pauses a few moments.
"Do you think that this man could have possibly taken our friend?" I ask him and he sighs.
"If he has a criminal record it could be a possibility, I will definitely look into it," He tells us and I sigh and look at Sam. "Do you have a picture of him?"
"Yes sir," Sam tells him as he grabs his laptop out of his backpack, opening it up to the instagram page.
"You're positive this is the man you are talking about?" He asks for clarification and I nod.
"One hundred percent," I reply with confidence. I know it was him, I know it. I need to find Colby, I'm going crazy without him and by the looks of it so is Sam. I miss him so much and I just really hope he's okay.
After a few more minutes of talking to Detective Gonzales, he gives us his card and assures us that he will let us know if they find anything and to call if we find anything else.
We get back into Sam's car and for the first time in a few days, I feel hopeful.
"I think we might find him Sammy," I tell him and he smiles at me.
"I know we will."
