~This chapter is kind of sappy, but don't worry, "deer" friends, the meat of this story is coming in a few chapters. Trust me, everything contributes to the overall plot. The sappiness will not prevail! -Z.~

You were jolted awake. You sat straight up in bed, heart beating fast.

"Damn alarm clock gets me every morning," you say through a yawn. You flop back down on your bed.

"Turn that thing off, and get ready for school!" a voice from downstairs hollers.

"Ugh," you mutter, turning off your alarm and getting out of bed. You turn on your stereo, and the song you were listening to yesterday continues from where it left off. You pull yourself into a full body stretch, yawning once more.

What was that dream I had last night? I can't really remember, but it was definitely weird, you think, giggling. You shuffle over to your dresser.

"Hmm what to wear...," you say under your breath, itching your head. You pick up the dress your mother had recently bought for you. It was covered in overlapping sunflowers, you loved sunflowers. "Perfect."

It was the last day of school before summer vacation, and you wanted to look your best. You turned off your stereo and went into the bathroom across the hall to brush your teeth.

"Whoa what is up with that hair?!" You giggled as you looked in the mirror. You hair was sticking up in multiple directions, so you picked up a brush and started working on the number your pillow had done to your head. You finished and stared at yourself in the mirror, smiling.

"Today is going to be a good day, I can feel it."

You go downstairs to find your father making breakfast, and your mother sitting at the table drinking the first of many cups of coffee.

"Morning," you sing with a grin plastered on your face.

"Look at you," your mother says with a smile. You loved when she smiled, it was always radiant. "My beautiful beautiful daughter all dressed up for her last day of sixth grade."

Your father walks over to you, pulling you into a hug. "It seemed only a short time ago you were standing in this very kitchen ready for your first day of pre-k, and now you're going to be getting ready for big bad middle school," he ruffled your hair. "Stop growing up so fast, alright," he chuckles.

You sit at the table, and eat your breakfast, your parents holding hands across the table. "Remember, graduation is right after school today, so don't be late," you remind them with a smile, finishing your food.

"Of course," your father says. "Wouldn't miss it for the world," your mother chimes in.

You get up, put on your book bag, and walk toward the door.

"See you later guys, I love you!"

You exit your house, and start walking to school. You look up at the sky, it was a beautiful day in Gravity Falls. The sun was shining causing everything to sparkle, birds were chirping, the trees were lush and swaying slightly in the warm morning breeze. The world seemed to be perfect just for you. You walked up the steps of Gravity Falls elementary with a huge smile, and joined your classmates. The day went by fairly quickly, and you received many compliments on your new dress. "Sunflowers, summer vacation, they just go together, man," your friend Ash said. You had always been a shy, nervous kid, so you never really had too many friends. Ash had basically been your only friend through school, and she would always tell kids off when they tried to pick on you for stuttering out of nervousness and being a little overweight. A lot of kids called you weird or a freak because you were really into science-well actually science fiction, Your nose always in some book or another. They were sure you belonged on another planet, or in a nut house, at least. You never held anything they said to you against them, though. It's just not worth getting mad, they'll grow out of bullying someday, you told yourself.

The school day finally ended, and your class went to the auditorium to get ready for the graduation. You had butterflies as you changed into your rental gown. You put your cap on, and looked around the room at your classmates in their little caps and gowns. We're all so cute and official. Your teacher came in and told everyone to line up. She led you to the stage. As you walked across the stage to your seat, you looked into the sea of smiling and crying parents, but where were yours?

"Don't worry, y/n," Ash whispered to you. "They're probably just in the back, don't they always loose track of time?" You grabbed her hand and she squeezed it as you all sat in your chair on the stage. Ash always knew how to make you feel better.

The principal started calling off names, and, before you knew it, you had your "diploma" and the ceremony was over. Everyone left the stage and dressed out of their gowns. You raced back to the auditorium to look for your parents, but, again, could not find them. Did they really not show up?

You walked out the front door of the school, and sat on the front steps, tears threatened to fall and lip quivered. You pulled out your phone and tried to call your mom. No answer. Your dad? No answer. They-They didn't show up and now they're ignoring me? How could they do this to me? You felt like crying, so you tried to text Ash.

-Where are you?- -My mom&dad took me out 4 ice cream, what up?-

At least her parents care about her.

You trudged home with tears streaming down your face.

Why do you have to cry so much? You're such a baby with these waterfalls on you face! It's not the end of the world!!

You finally reached your front door just as the sun began to set. You paused before unlocking the front door to take in the melting canvas of the sunset. It made you feel a little better. You wiped your tears, and entered your house. You set your book bag down, grabbed a snack, and sat on the couch.

Should I forgive them? Maybe they have hated me this whole time, and decided I was old enough to be abandoned. You rolled your eyes at yourself. You're being ridiculous. Just chill out, they probably have a good reason for... for being terrible parents.

Not much later the house phone rang and you forced yourself to get up to answer it. "This better be them apologizing," you grumbled. "L/N residence."

"Is this y/n," a gruff voice questioned.

"Y-Yes..." Your heart beat a little faster. Oh no it's a killer, they know I'm here alone, and now they're going to kill ME.

"Y/n, this is Sheriff Blubs, I'm gonna have to ask you to come down to the station, hon." Wait, what?

"Um.. uh. W-what for," you stammered.

Blubs audibly sighed on the other end, "I didn't really want to give you this information over the phone, but... Yer folks they, uh, were in an accident earlier this afternoon. The crash was pretty horrific, and they're both at Gravity Falls Medical. But, uh, it's not lookin' good for them. I'm sorry, y/n. "
