~Is the whole song thing lame? Am I Lame? If I'm lame, you must be equally lame.~
Chapter 13: Of Course
The final bell rang, causing everyone in your last period class to cheer. School was finally over for the year! You gathered up everything from your locker and shoved it in your bag to sort through later.
Wow, you made it through another year. To think, this time last year my parents were in the hospital, and I was about to make the deal with Cipher, you thought as you made your way home. I should do something nice for them tonight. I'll make a cake, 'Congratz on the whole not dying thing,' it'll say. You laughed at yourself. Nah, mom doesn't enjoy dark humor like that. Maybe I'll use the money I have been saving from working at the Shack to bring us out to dinner?
You unlocked your front door and called out for your parents as you walked into the house. You shuffled into the kitchen and read the note that had been left on the counter.
"We're going to Vegas for the weekend! There's plenty of leftover pasta in the refrigerator to last you a few days--Don't drink any of our wine that's in there!! Love ya. -Mom n Dad."
"Wow," you said taken aback. "Well, I, uh, guess I had to work tonight anyway..."
You crumpled up the note, throwing it in the general direction of the trash, and trudged up the stairs to your room. You forcefully pushed open your bedroom door and chucked your backpack onto your bed with a sigh. Papers flew everywhere.
"Rough day, kid," a high-pitched voice asked, causing you to jolt in surprise. "Haha! You would think that you would be used to me surprising you by now!"
"You know, you could always call ahead and let me know that you're coming! As an ordinary person would," you said, glaring at the triangle.
"I'm not an ordinary person--or even a person for that matter! But I am extraordinary. Besides, I enjoy scaring the bazonkers out of you," he laughed and twirled his cane.
"Is bazonkers even a thing that can come out of me?"
"It could be."
You scoffed and started lazily sorting through your school papers. Bill floated over to you.
"Ready to embark on another grand adventure with your pal, Billy," he asked theatrically, nudging you with an elbow.
"I can't, I have to work. Contrary to what you might think, I do have a life between your infrequent visits."
"Work? Who in their right mind would hire you, kid," he laughed.
"Just leave me alone," you huffed.
"We both know that's not going to happen. You're just going to have to call your boss man and cancel."
"You don't just 'cancel' a job. It's also getting busier now that summer is here. I can't just leave Mr. Pines hanging," you explained, sourly.
"Pines," he asked curiously.
"Yeah, Stan Pines, my boss."
"Hmm, I once knew a Stan Pines, but-- No, it couldn't be the same...," he floated away mumbling the rest of his thought to himself.
"So what are you going to do since I'm not coming with you?"
"Pfft, of course you're coming with me. Give me your mobile phone," Bill ordered, holding out his hand.
"No! What are you going to do with it," you asked putting your hands over the phone in your pocket.
He rolled his eye and snapped his fingers, and the phone appeared in his palm.
