Chapter 3: A Deal

The house phone dropped out of your hand, hitting the hardwood floor with a loud clatter. You stood there in shock. An accident..? A faint, static voice came from the phone on the ground. "Hello? Y/n, are you alright, I need you to come down here."

You ignore the far away voice, it was a thousand miles away. The only thing you could think to do was run, and that's what you did. You ran out of the house, out the back door, and into the forest. It was almost completely dark by then, and you couldn't see very well. Still, you willed your legs to keep running, away from your problems, away from those lies.

They couldn't have been in an accident, you think as you stumble over the shadowy outline of a log. It slows you down for a second, but you venture on.

Dad is a great driver, he has saved us from would-be accidents on more than one occasion... You stumbled through bushes and brush, it scraped up your legs and your dress. You didn't register the small cuts, though, your physical body wasn't in the same place as your mind. You finally reached your destination, legs aching and lungs burning. It was a clearing in the middle of the forest, and in the center was a small hill littered with tall, graceful sunflowers. You had found this spot while exploring alone a few years ago. It was the only place you felt truly safe, and at peace. You threw yourself onto your hands and knees at the top of the hill, your dress was ripped and dirty. You sobbed into your knees.

How could this have happened? Were they really going to-Were they really going to die? Here I thought they ditched me, and they were in the hospital this entire time? I feel so guilty.

You sat there for a while and cried.

Suddenly, dark, ominous clouds accumulated right above you. The gentle breeze started to pick up and became violent. The wind tossed the sunflowers around, as lightning flashed from the center of the clouds. You looked up just in time to see a shadowy figure appear out of thin air, menacing laughter filled the air around you. You stared confused and terrified at the figure as it came closer. Eventually you could make out who-what-it was... A triangle man? with a single sparkling cat eye, a pitch black top hat, and a bow tie to match.

"Well hello there, y/n," he said. His voice sounded strange, like it was warped, and as if he wasn't the only one speaking.

"You-You're a tr-triangle," you stammered dumbly.

He laughs. "I sure am, the name's Bill Cipher," he tips hit hat. "I am, but your humble servant."

"B-But you're a floating triangle," you repeat gawking at him from the ground.

He looks around awkwardly, "Yep... Didn't we just go through that? Do you need me to leave and re-enter? Your line is something along the lines of 'How did you know my name,' or 'What are you doing here,' or 'Gosh, Bill, you're looking extra spiffy today, is that a new bow tie?' because yes, it is, thanks for noticing," he offers as he adjusts his tie.

"I-I'm sorry," you apologize, standing up. "I've had a traumatic d-day, my b-brain's a little fu-fuzzy."

"So I can see," he remarks, slightly squinting at you.

You look around nervously, "What do you me-mean by that?" You take a step back, and your hands start fidgeting.

Bill's eye smirked, " I can read people's minds, doll face. I see all of the invisible brain juices that flow out of their ears." Your hands instinctively cover your ears, and he laughs.
