;

you hate that you want me, hate it when you cry,

you're scared to be lonely, 'specially in the night,

i'm scared that i'll miss you, happens every time,

i don't want this feeling, i can't afford love. i try to find reason to pull us apart,

it ain't workin', 'cause you're perfect, and i know that you're worth it,

i can't walk away.

"What exactly happened?"

"I had free time and I wanted to stop by and check on him to see how he was doing since it's been a while," Ashton told me quietly. "And so I walked into the room and he was sitting on the floor with his head in his knees which seemed a little weird - not necessarily unlike him, but it was off-putting. I tried calling his name to get his attention, but he wasn't moving. He wouldn't lift his head to look up at me and I started to panic and ironically enough, Jaclyn had walked into the room. She told me to kind of just tilt his head up and see if he was maybe just asleep or something, and I did, but he just looked spaced out - he was staring at nothing and he wasn't responding. At all. That's when I realized that he wasn't even breathing."

I winced and folded my arms over my chest to help warm the skin that'd suddenly gone cold after hearing Ashton's side of what'd happened. Both he and I were standing outside the curtain blocking us off from Luke inside of designated room in the ICU. Jaclyn was inside with him, and all we could hear from outside the one piece of cloth was silence - it was honestly a little nerve-wracking.

The air was tense and thick, everybody still seemingly on edge after what had just happened. They'd managed to revive Luke with the help of a few extra hands and a defibrillator, but it was an insanely close call. They'd almost given up on him after eight minutes of no response, but it was at the nine minute mark that his pulse finally started to function again.

"What did his doctor say?" I asked Ashton, turning to lean my head against the wall and peer into the slight crack through the curtain. Jaclyn's back was covering most of Luke's profile, but I could still clearly see the tall boy's legs hanging off the edge of the bed that was way too small for him unlike the one in his own room back upstairs. He was dressed in the hospital's typical white and powder blue gown rather than his usual gray joggers, and it was a weird sight to take in, honestly.
