fallon.
"I should have said no."
"Fallon," Adrianne sighed, tossing her phone aside. I swallowed as she stood from my bed to walk over to where I was sat down in front of my vanity - there was a scattered pile of makeup laying right in front of me, a sight that on any other day, I'd find mouthwatering. Right now, though? I couldn't get myself to touch any of it. Adrianne stood behind me and placed both of her firm hands on my shoulders. "It's one hour at an Italian restaurant. You're both gonna be too busy stuffing garlic knots down your throats to actually even talk."
I glared at the blonde through the reflection of the mirror in front of me. "I'm not laughing."
"I'm not trying to make you laugh, I'm trying to tell you the truth!"
"The truth is that Calum likes me. He's liked me since ninth grade, you knew, didn't tell me, and now I'm going on a date with him that he's worked his ass off to arrange. He's expecting to have a very happy dinner with mozzarella sticks and pasta and parmesan cheese and I'm going to ruin everything he's worked so hard for by telling him that I don't feel the same way he does! Then he's going to look at me like I just killed his first born child, leave me stranded in the restaurant, and never talk to me again. That's the truth."
"Um, no. That's the mortifying effect of paranoia," Adrianne scoffed. "Can you not overthink this? Please? Cal told you that tonight could be whatever you wanted it to be. You don't have to look at it as a date, okay? Look at it as two best friends going out for Italian food on a Saturday night. Act the way you always act around him, and everything will be okay."
"Yeah, until I tell him that I don't like him like that!" I groaned and let my head fall into my arms, the loud sound of my head colliding with the wooden vanity-top making Adrianne flinch. I grumbled, my words getting muffled into my arms, "It's kind of hard to see it as two best friends going out for a platonic dinner when I now know that things between us aren't even fully platonic anymore." My mind slipped to wondering about the endless possibilities of how this one, very crucial, "date" could end - what if I came home tonight having to face the fact that Calum and I weren't best friends anymore? I tried my best to swallow the thought down. "It's not going to be the same after tonight."
I shrieked in surprise as my rolly chair was suddenly being spun around, forcing my head to fly off the wooden surface so that I was now facing an exhausted looking Adrianne.
"No," she said, "things will be the exact same, I can guarantee you. I like to think that I know Cal from back to front, cover to cover, and I don't think that he's just going to cut you out of his life just because you don't like him the way he likes you - he's been obsessed with you since eighth grade ceramics, Fallon. You're the last person he'd ever think of getting rid of."
