I: Goodbye

Stories normally start with a hello, a beginning, an opening. Not in this case. My parents made wrong choices in life. They traded the good in them for cowardice. I was fifteen when everything happened at once. What is known as the Battle of Hogwarts was approaching and my parents did everything in their power to keep me safe. As you can probably guess, my parents were Death Eaters but free ones just like Draco's (Well, before Lucius went to Azkaban).

They had powerful connections with the Ministry of Magic and were never taken to Azkaban, never found guilty. Until the Dark Lord rose again, my parents weren't ones for standing up for their rights; they were too influenced in status that they didn't really care about much. Except me, I was a Slytherin by default. Even though I guess you could say I'm sly and cunning at times but I tried my best not to fit the stereotype. I genuinely wasn't popular or anything, I wasn't mean, I wasn't smart or good at potions. I had half a friend. I was just a pretty good background Slytherin. But, of course, I was known. My family was recognized for their wealth and obvious Death Eater rumors and my cousin, Draco, didn't help much to my sticking into the background.

You see, my mother's name was written upon the infamous Black family tree. And you know what they say about the Blacks. I tried to mend what my parents accomplished but my dear cousin took the opposite course. I often thought about my parents, if they genuinely loved me. I think that in their own twisted way they loved me too much. They did everything they could to protect me and it costed them a lot.

In my fourth year at Hogwarts as I sat in the Slytherin common room, I was called. My mother and father appeared in the common room.

"Pack your trunk. We're leaving." My father said frantically. I kept asking questions about it but they never answered me. They just packed my trunk and we left through the chimney, not saying anything else to anyone. I never returned to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.

We went home and grabbed a few things before apparating to a completely different place.

"Let's make this quick. Dear, there's a war coming up. We were summoned by the dark lord and he threatened the Malfoys and us." My mother started.

"You're going into hiding, basically." My father said, "If the Dark Lord finds you, he will kill you or make you do as we do. We don't want you to become a slave. We don't want you to make mistakes. But we have a duty, we have to fight for that side no matter what. We must remain loyal."

"So, we leave you here. You're in America. You'll be attending a wizarding school here called Ilvermorny until it's safe for you to come back. Please take care." My mother finished. "Goodbye."

And, I was left at the steps of Ilvermorny in utter shock. The headmistress greeted me.

"I've been expecting you." She said, "Come, it's time to be sorted."

I stepped in the entrance hall surrounded by four statues and students looking at me very confused. I didn't know what was about to happen until I heard roars.

"You have been chosen by the house of Wampus, known for their warriors." The headmistress said not taking another look at me. Since I already had a wand I didn't have to go through the second part. "Congratulations and good luck. I'll have one of your own to show you around."

"Hey, I'm here to show you around." I jumped around to see a guy a few years older than me.

"Oh my, you startled me." I said and chuckled.

"British? What are you doing here?" He asked. "You guys have your own school."

"I'm in exile." I joked. He looked startled now.

"If you're casual about it so am I." He said and chuckled. "My name's Daniel."

"Nice to meet you. It's a special case, I really couldn't keep attending Hogwarts."

"Whoa, you were a student in Hogwarts? Awesome." He said. "What house?"

"Slytherin."

With that we continued to my "common room". Goodbye. That day I lost everything. I lost my house, my friends, my school, my family. I had an entirely new start in life. Nobody knew about my family, I could make my own reputation here. That's what I thought but I was wrong. I mean, a fifteen year old Brit just randomly turning up did draw a lot of attention and also rumors. But, that was the least of my problems.
