That weekend was a long weekend and I was entirely embarrassed of what had happened with George. I thought he might've been flirting with me but I didn't want to get that idea in my head. He sees you like family. I was sitting with Draco, eating breakfast while Teddy slept. We were three quarters into January so as soon as I returned later that day I'd have to start planning Valentine's Day themed things. Love. Love was the last thing I wanted to think about.
"Gianna, you seem even more distracted than usual." Draco said.
"Something weird happened with George." I said.
"Yes?" He asked, I nodded.
"He said that I'm nice and he wanted to give me a hug." I said. Draco laughed. "Hey. I'm not used to be called nice."
"It's the Weasleys." Draco said. "All so strange."
"I agree." I said. "You know that I hate confronting people after weird things happen. I can't stop staring at them with the cringe smile." The cringe smile was this kind of horrible reflex smile that I had after I'd suffered an awkward moment with someone, it happens a lot. Draco laughed.
"What, then? Are you going to be 'ill' this week too?"
"Shut up." I said. "I actually considered it." He laughed. "I'll just put the invisibility charm on Howl and go to the joke shop."
"Good luck." Draco said. "You'll definitely need it." And that's exactly what I did, after about an hour I apparated to the shop.
"Morning, George." I said as I walked in. He smiled at me.
"Glad to have you back." He said. "I need you to work on Valentine's Day products. But concentrate on the potions. " I nodded and entered the office. After about two hours, George entered.
"Hey."
"Hi." I said while focusing on the potions.
"Did you know that this shop attracts exes?" He said. I didn't look at him. "Angelina came from close but Daniel's a long way." DANIEL? I looked up. "Yeah, you better talk to him." I went outside to see the familiar face of my ex-boyfriend, Daniel.
"Gianna." He said. I went up to him and hugged him.
"How's America holding up without me?" I asked. He chuckled.
"It's even better without you." He joked, I chuckled.
"Well, welcome to my workplace." I said. "I'm glad you're alright. What brings you here?"
"I was in the neighborhood." He said. "I'm here with the ministry so I decided to check this out. And, I heard the tall one say your name so I figured."
"His name is George." I said.
"Is he like your...?"
"Not at all." I said. "He's Teddy's Godfather's wife's brother."
"Oh. Not weird at all." He said.
"Ron, George. This is Daniel. The only American that would get close to a Slytherin Brit in hiding." I said, they laughed.
"I mean, I was kind of forced to." He said. Let me explain, Daniel's mom was the Headmistress of Ilvermorny and she was extremely concerned about how people would react to me so she basically forced him to hang out with me even if he was three years older than me. That's why I said that Daniel was with me because he pitied me.
"Yeah, I'm still delightful." I said.
"Anyways, I have something to discuss with you." He said. "In private." I looked back to see George and Ron "working".
"Follow me, I have an office." I said. I saw an extendable ear but chose to ignore it. "So, how's your mother?"
"She's alright." He said. "She's part of why I'm here today. You know that Professor Clearwink is retiring this year right? Well, my mom sent me to ask you if you'd like to take her place next year."
"Me? A teacher?"
"I mean, you love Care of Magical Creatures." He said. "Mom is offering you the first pick. She thinks you'll be great with all of that Hippogriff experience and Professor Clearwink supported the idea."
"I don't know what to say." I said. "I mean, I'm honoured but I just got back here, Daniel. I'm with my family again. I have George... and Ron and Draco. I can't just leave them."
"Yes, I know that. Just consider it, please." He said. "Mother is really fixed on the idea of having you teach. She really wants to have you back... even if we're not together."
"I love your mum and everything." I said. "But I really have to think about it. Teddy's so happy to have me live with him, I don't really want to take that away from him."
"I get it." He said. "It's just that it's a great opportunity, Gianna. Just send us an owl by April with your decision please."
"Will do."
"I have to leave now." He said. "It's great to see you again." He kissed my cheek and exited the room. George entered.
"What are you going to do?" He asked me. Of course, he heard everything.
"I'll look for a reason to stay." I said. "If I don't find it, I'll leave." I shrugged.
"It's a great opportunity." He said. "The joke shop will miss your dullness." I chuckled.
"I know." I said. "I'll miss the shop's abnormal colours." He chuckled.
"You can take the evening off, I'll let you get to thinking."
