There's a knock on my door and a part of me wishes it's him. I quickly go to the door and fix my hair before opening it.
My heart skips a beat as I open the door. When I see Paige standing in front of me smiling I can't help to feel a deep disappointment.
"Gee. You're not excited to see me." I suddenly feel really bad. "Sorry. I'm sorry. I was just hoping..."
"Hoping it was Dean?" She asks raising her eyebrows. I nod my head shamefully. She walks in and closes the door behind.
"You never texted or called me last night to give me the juices." She says sitting on my bed. I start folding clothes to pack up because today we're leaving to Illinois.
"Those juices were sour, hurtful, and painful." I reply shoving the clothes in my bag. "What? Why?" She sounds quite disappointed.
"Why do you think?" I look at her and she frowns. "Sasha?" I nod my head and she groans. "Dammit Sasha. Always messing everything up."
"They did it in front of my face." Paige furrows her eyebrows and gives me a look. "Did what?" I close my suitcase and put it on the floor.
"You know... did it." It takes her a few seconds before she knows what I'm talking about. Her eyes widen. "Like hooked up?"
I nod my head getting awful flashbacks. "In front of your face?" I nod my head once again and her mouth drops open.
"Why didn't you leave? How could they? In front of you?" She sounds confused and surprised. "I went to his room and Sasha showed up. Dean didn't want her to know I was there so he asked me to hide in his closet. I did and- it all happened."
"Wow." Paige says. "So I'm guessing you didn't tell him how you felt?" She adds. "I did. After Sasha left I told him. I wanted him so badly to tell me he felt the same way. Deep down inside I knew he didn't."
"I'm sorry Aj." She replies with a sad face. I shrug, "It's fine. It was my fault either way. He wasn't looking for something serious with me. And I knew it. Yet I still fell for him."
"Maybe it's for the best you know? Maybe this happened because he's not right for you. Sometimes the person you want is not the person you need."
Paige is right but her words still stab my heart. "I know." I reply quietly. "Let's head downstairs. We could drink a coffee while we leave."
"Are you sure Sami doesn't mind giving me rides? If he has a problem then I can ride the bus."
Paige playfully smacks me. "Nonsense. Sami doesn't mind at all. Come on." She opens the door and I grab my suitcase along with my key.
When we're downstairs we go to the cafeteria to get something to drink. I end up getting just plain black coffee.
I don't like it but I need something to keep me awake. These past few nights I haven't been able to sleep okay. When he ended everything he took my sleep with him.
Paige and I take a seat on a random table. "I love coffee. It's like the best thing ever you know? What would we do without it?"
I take a sip of mine and regret getting it. "Should've gotten a cappuccino or something." She says as she takes a sip of her.
"I got this to keep me awake. Although I don't need it. My thoughts are enough to keep me awake."
I start playing with my cup when someone approaches us. "Hey Aj." Randy says. I look up at him and he gives me a smile.
"Oh! I just remembered I had to get something for Sami. I'll go ahead and take your suitcase Aj." Paige says getting up. She grabs her cup then my suitcase and walks away.
When she's by the door she winks at me and walks out. Randy takes a seat in front of me. "Hey Randy. How are you?"
He shrugs, "Could be better. How about you?" I chuckle quietly, "Same." We stay quiet for a few seconds until he speaks up.
"So. Have you thought about what I told you?" He leans in more towards me and I look down at my lap. "Randy I'm-"
"I know. I'm hurting too. You're not the only one." This makes me look at him. "I just want us to get distracted. Let's just hang out. As friends. No date or anything."
"Okay." I mumble. He smiles, "Great. Well I should probably get going. Are you coming?" He's standing up already and I nod my head.
"Yeah. I'm going to throw this away first." I say grabbing my cup. On the way out I dump it and he laughs. "Didn't like it?"
"Not really. It's awful." I say with a smile. "It is. It leaves that horrible after taste doesn't it?" I nod my head and we both laugh for a few seconds.
He suddenly stops laughing. "I'll talk to you later." He says quietly. "Okay bye." I say as he walks away.
As he's walking away he glances back. "Aj." My heart stops for a millisecond. I slowly turn around and see Dean.
"Dean." I say breathing faster. It feels like I just ran a marathon. "Hey. Can I have a second?" He asks. I nod my head way to quickly.
"Aj we... we can't be friends anymore." My whole insides turn into knots. "What?" I choke out.
"We can't be friends anymore." He whispers. I suddenly feel like I can't breathe right. "But- but why? Is it because of what I said last night? You can't just cut me off like that. You said we were friends... you said-"
I stop talking because I feel like I'm going to cry any second. "No it's not because of that." He says quietly. "Then?"
"Sasha doesn't want us to be friends anymore." Sasha. Of course. "Oh." It's all that I can say. "Sorry. She gets really jealous and- I hope you understand."
"Yeah." I reply avoiding eye contact. "I'll try to make her understand. Okay?" I nod my head and he sighs. "Sorry."
He walks away and I watch him as he gets further away from me.
I've completely lost him.
