Kris

The school year has ended and everyone’s looking forward to the summer vacation. And as much as I enjoyed my time with my friends, I couldn’t wait to breathe, to be away for awhile, to be alone and find myself.

I looked up at the sky and enjoyed the cool breeze, my back rested on the wall of the pathway. I really hope this vacation will do me good.

“Kris!”

I turned my head and instantly smiled.

She had a bright smile on her beautiful face. “Hindi ka ba sasama sa beach house nila Seth?” she asked as she walked towards me.

I stood straight removing my earphones, and put my hands in my pockets. “Do you want me to come?” I looked at her lovely face.

“Oo naman,” said. “It would be great kung kasama ka.”

“Are you going with them?” I took a step closer to her.

She nodded. “Pinagpaalam na ako ni Kai kanila Papa, so yeah. Kasama ako.”

“Right.” I lowered my head. Of course she would come with Kai. I smirked at my own thoughtless thought.

She walked closer. “Kris…”

I looked at her again. She had a concerned look on her face. “What?”

“Sumama ka na.”

I studied her face for awhile. “Okay...” I thought of something, “give me five good reasons why I should go.”

Her eyes almost popped out. “Kailangan ba talagang may rason, Kris?”

I grinned, “Of course. Persuade me.” I crossed my arms in front of my chest.

She squinted. “OA ka, ha. Pero sige, challenge accepted.” Then she laughed. “Una, all your best friends are going to be there,” she stated, counting with her fingers for each reason. “Second, they say the beach house is a breath of fresh air, so we’ll have a great time. Next, it’s summer. You’d love the beach there. Another is, this is a great time for you to… you know, relax.” She hesitated at that sentence. “Lastly…”

“Do I really have to?” I cut her off, trying not to laugh at her for trying so hard.

“Hay naku! Bahala ka nga. Kahit kailan cold guy ang drama mo. Psh.” She turned her back from me and started to walk away.

I ran after her and stood right in front of her, suppressing my laughter. “Sara…” I tried catching her eyes. “Ang bilis mo talagang mapikon,” I said and poked her nose.

“Kasi ang drama drama mo.” She poked me back at my chest. “Cold guy forever. Hmp.”

I laughed. “O sige. Give me the last good reason why I should go with you.” I emphasized the word ‘good’.

“Gusto mo talagang marinig? Well, the last good reason why you should come is,” she stressed the word ‘good’ herself, “we’re gonna have fun habang ikaw e kinakarir ang pagiging cold guy. It would be a lot better kung andun ka at pinapanood kaming lahat. So there, happy?”

“Gano'n, ha?” I started to laugh. She just looked cute when she acts that way.

“Oo, gano'n nga.” She laughed with me, pero nagseryoso rin. “Sumama ka na kasi, Kris.”
