I stared at her bound wrists, immediately hating whoever tied them. The skin underneath was rubbed raw, painful and pink.
I growled at the two officers when they took a step towards Bella. Aaron glared at my form hatefully before walking in front of her efficiently blocking her from my view.
I growled and snapped my teeth in his direction.
The other officer, a young one named Matt, was glancing around warily. He took a small step away from me and glared at Aaron, picking up on the fact that he was the cause of my sudden aggression.
My ears twitched when Aaron started whispering to Bella. I quieted my growls and stepped closer, hoping to hear what he was saying.
"When I untie you, I want you to run. Go to Owen's house. I've already talked to him and he will be there to protect you," he whispered.
The curse whimpered painfully in my head.
"Don't let her run, I'll chase her like prey and we both know how that will end," he growled at me.
I flinched, Theo popping into my mind. I won't hurt Bella like I did him.
I stepped forward and bit into the leg of Aaron's pants, pulling him away from Bella. She struggled with the rope trying to get her hands out.
I watched from behind Aaron, teeth still clenched tightly on the fabric of his clothes, unwilling to let go. My paws dug into the dirt, pulling back with as much force as Aaron pulled forward.
Bella managed to pull her hands free and started untying her ankles.
I let go of Aaron, allowing myself the satisfaction of seeing him fall face first into the dry dirt.
I stalked towards Matt, growling threateningly. He threw his hands up and backed away slowly. His eyes moved past me and widened in surprise.
I spun around jaws snapping. I had hoped that Aaron had gotten to his feet and was sneaking up on me, but he was gone and so was Bella.
I saw a flash of her brown hair through the trees. I took off in her direction, paws thundering against the earth, propelling me forward.
The curse pushed forward, taking over and pushing me to run faster. My back legs pushed me over a fallen tree. Landing gracefully on the other side, I continued running.
I slowed when I caught sight of Bella. Aaron had disappeared, either running in a different direction or hiding.
Bella glanced behind her and saw me. Her breath came in short, breathless pants, but she pressed herself forward. Forcing herself to move faster.
I barked, trying to warn her of a dip in the path. I knew she wouldn't understand what I was saying but I couldn't just let her get hurt.
She ran faster, my noise obviously scaring her. I watched unable to do anything as she stepped in the hole and her ankle twisted. The loud snap that followed allowed me to push the beast part of me back and the logical part take control.
Bella fell to the ground screaming in pain.
The Beast itched to climb back to the surface and finish what he started, but I pushed him back.
I crawled over to her in an attempt to not scare her. I was low enough that my belly scraped the ground every time I moved.
She scooted away from me, a yelp of pain escaping her when her shattered leg hit the ground.
I whimpered in response trying to tell her that I wouldn't harm her.
She eyed me warily with fear still rolling off her in waves but allowed me to get closer.
Sweat trickled down her face and neck from the exertion of running from me and trying to not pass out or scream in pain.
"Why aren't you hurting me?" She whispered.
I whimpered in response licking her hand and nuzzling against her comfortingly.
She ran her fingers through my fur timidly. I thumped my tail in response, encouraging her to keep touching me. She ran her hand down my back her nails lightly scraping the skin under my fur.
"You're not so bad," she whispered in my ear. I stretched up and licked her face drawing a giggle from her lips that turned into a hiss of pain when her ankle moved.
I licked her again before getting up to get Owen to help me move her and fix her bone.
I started walking towards the town center.
"Wait!" Bella called out to me. My tail wagged at the show of trust and the thought that she might need me. "Aaron is back that way," she whispered quietly, but my sensitive ears still picked it up. "He was going to hide. He told me he was going to attack you when you chased after me. I'm afraid he might get you if you go back that way."
I'd like to see him try. I snorted at her and pranced away towards the town center.
I walked fast but slow enough to enjoy the nice day. I pranced from flower to flower, sniffing each one before moving on.
There was a thud beside me telling me that Aaron was near and had jumped from his hiding spot. I immediately tensed in preparation for Aaron's attack. I forced myself to act like I wasn't paying attention and kept walking. I strained my ears to hear his movement.
I listened to his footfalls and the way his heart sped up, alerting me to the pending attack.
I crouched down just as he sprung forward shooting himself over my body. He landed in dirt, the dry topsoil puffing up around him.
I growled and snapped my jaws threateningly, almost daring him to get any closer.
He pushed up on his knees and struggled to his feet breathing hard from landing harshly on the ground.
The sun glinted off a sharp knife. Aaron rushed towards me to fast for me to react. The knife cut deeply into my side making me wince and pull away.
He grabbed my by the scruff of my neck, drawing out the knife before pushing it back in a different spot. I yelped in pain clawing at Aaron to get away. He removed the knife again before shoving it back in deeper twisting as he shoved it through my skin.
My energy was draining and I no longer fought against Aaron. I felt my body go limp and Aaron dropped me to the ground leaving the knife in me after stabbing me one last time.
I whimpered when I fell on the knife, shoving it deeper inside me.
The last thing I remember was Aaron walking towards where I left Bella then everything went black.
