Lilli sat in her hotel, staring out the window at the streams of cars travelling past. She looked as Becky and Darren's black SUV sped down the road, stopping inevitably at the closest set of traffic lights.

She came over to America with her friend Jessica just for VidCon, and so Jessica could audition for an A Capella school tomorrow.

"When do we have to leave tomorrow? I've just found the complex," Jessica started as she swerved her laptop to face Lilli beside her. It showed a large complex, and yellow lines on the screen, a direct pathway from where to park to where to sign in. Lilli examined the map, reading all surrounding streets. It was a fair way away, about an hour or so.

"We'd have to leave at seven to sign in at eight thirty. Set the alarm for six," replied Lilli. She swerved the laptop back to Jess, who was fiddling with the alarm clock on the bedstead between their beds. Lilli continued to look out the window.

She remembered her brief encounters with Mat earlier in the day. She remembered the way he looked at her, and the way when she said her name, his demeanour completely changed. She remembered how he nearly looked confused by her. It was probably the sun in his eyes, she thought to herself.

She looked over to Jess at her laptop, her headphones in, humming one of Dodie's songs. She was performing a cover of 6/10 with a group she'd Skyped with for the past few months. It was all ready, and she was all ready for the next day. Lilli smiled, glad her friend was doing something with her amazing talents. After years of going over it, they both worked on her stage fright, working up her confidence. Lilli was proud of Jess, but still conflicted over the whole thing with MatPat. She checked her phone, and looked at the time. It was only eight, so they had time before they had to go to bed for an early start. She was about to put her phone down, until it chirped, a Twitter notification.

It was a tweet by MatPat, ironically. She tried to read it, but the screen blurred slightly. She reached for her glasses on the bedstead. She put them on, and opened Twitter. She read the words, now in full focus.

"#VidCon 2026 was amazing! Went incognito and met a loyal theorist! Thanks for the support, guys!" Read the tweet. Attached was an image of him, his smile beaming, outside the complex. In the background was the inside of the complex through the glass walls, and the crowd of people. Near the front, Lilli noticed herself, leaning in her bag. The picture was taken before she bumped into him. She smiled, her phone chirping again. A comment by MatPat, responding to someone for once. He responded to some fan account.

"What? Who was this lucky theorist? You were at VidCon?"

"Yes, I was! The picture not enough evidence for your theory? Her name was Lilli, I think."

He mentioned her! She was so happy, she dropped her phone on the floor, squealing excitedly. Jess looked up from her laptop.

"What's up, Lil?" she asked, closing her laptop. She walked over to Lilli's bed and picked up her friend's phone. She read the tweet, and giggled slightly.

"Fangirling about YouTubers again, huh? Well, I can't blame you," Jess started.

"But, he mentioned me in a tweet! He noticed me!" Lilli replied, over excited. They continued on for hours about their favourite YouTubers, specifically MatPat, until Lili remembered what she had intended to do from the second she saw the tweet. She reached for her phone again, and opened twitter, the page still on Mat's tweet. She started typing.

"Hey Mat! That 'Lilli' you met today was me! Don't worry, I don't have any more loose papers :D"

She pressed send faster than any tweet she'd ever written. She put her phone on her bedstead, and proceeded to crawl into bed, Jessica doing the same. Jess turned off the lamp in her corner of the room, and drew the curtains shut. She then lifted the covers above her bed, and the two went to bed.
