An amazing song, 'Be Somebody'. I put a lot of research into this chapter, so appreciate it! I'm kidding, but I did put quite a bit of research into Jason, and I do hope you enjoy it. If I mucked up a few details, let me know. I've had a ton of trouble with Jason's age, so let's proceed under the assumption that he's thirteen. That could be very wrong, but you try and figure it out. I've seen results ranging between saying that he's 8 and 14. A real pain in the- ah anyways... I'll just give you the actually important information.
About a year and a half has passed, Zero/Katie has joined the Team after training with Batman, and is part of the Batfam at this point. Dick is now Nightwing and Jason has been Robin for about a year. That includes training.
Katie's POV
Dang, what a year. I joined the Team that I'd idolized about for years before now, Dick changed his name to Nightwing and a kid named Jason Todd replaced him as Robin, and Bruce adopted me officially. That was the best day of my entire life, even though it was partly because my dad had died, well he'd been killed by Two-Face actually.
I've gotten really close with Dick and Wally, they're like my annoying older brothers. Zatanna and Artemis are my best friends. They both have boyfriends, I'm glad Zatanna's with Dick, they're such a cute couple and Wally and Artemis finally started dating.
Jason is just the cutest kid that ever happened. We have a lot in common, we had both been street kids and lost our parents. When the two of us were in the same room, sarcasm went right through the roof. But my god, I'm glad Bruce adopted him. He's so adorable.
"Katie, can you come here for a minute?" Bruce called from his Batcave.
"Yeah." I got down from the railing, where I'd been hanging upside-down, doing some homework. Don't judge me, it's easier to think that way.
"Hey Bruce what's up? Oh, hi Jason." The kid smiled at me brightly.
"Hey Katie. Look, I've been practicing!" He was in his Robin costume and did a flip, right where he was standing.
"Nice, Jason!" My heart was melting, so cute. Also, impressive. True, he was only two years younger than me, but he was just so cute. It was nice to see him happy once in a while, he was just so impulsive and angry all the time. I guess he liked me though, because he always learned something new, just to show me.
"So, what'd you want to talk to me about Bruce?"
"You know that when your Dad kicked your mom out, he started a new relationship?"
"Yeah, I never met her though. Wasn't her name Catherine?"
"Yes, and as it turns out, that is also Jason's mom's name."
My heart was racing, was he suggesting...
"So? It's a common name."
"What was your dad's name, Katie?"
"Willis, he was-"
"A petty criminal. Why do you think I'm telling you this?"
"He would never have done anything to hurt me, money was tight!"
Why was I defending him? Bruce already knows this. And despite my dad being a criminal, I had a pretty good relationship with him.
"I know Katie. Jason is your brother."
I was suspicious. It seemed too fantastic.
"How'd you find that out?" Yeah, okay, asking the world's greatest detective, if he was one hundred percent sure about something was kinda weird. But you can't be right all the time, right? WRONG! So very wrong, as it would turn out.
