"Serena, are you okay?" I asked my girlfriend, interrupting her day dreaming.
"Uh yeah, I'm fine." She said waving me off and turning her attention back to Mr. Hecker. Serena didn't talk to me for the rest of class, which wasn't like her at all. That girl couldn't go five minutes without saying something. I could tell that something was on her mind.
The bell rang, and she scooped up all her things before hurrying out the door. I followed after her and gently grabbed her arm so that she would stop walking.
"Serena, are you sure nothing's wrong? You know you can tell me anything." I assured her. She smiled up at me half heartedly.
"I'm sure. What's up?" I was a little suspicious of her behavior, but I decided to let it go for now. Maybe we could talk about it later. "Well you wanna go do something?"
Serena looked deep in thought for a moment, but then she smiled at me and grabbed my hand. "Where to?"
"You want to go bowling or something?" She nodded, so I lead her to my car and opened the door for her. She muttered a quick "thank you" and got in. When we got to the bowling ally, I slung my arm over her shoulders and lead her inside.
"Yes, Got a strike again!" She gloated, doing a little dance. I rolled my eyes and grabbed my bowling ball. I wound up my arm and made the ball glide down the ally only knocking down three pins. When I looked at Serena, expecting her to gloat and make fun of me, she was only was only sitting down watching me bowl with a tiny smile on her face.
I walked over and sat down beside her, pulling out a twix bar. She laughed slightly as she took her bar and I took mine.
"Right twix is the best, and you know it." I said, starting our usual debate. Serena only nodded and took a bite out of her twix bar. Now I knew something was wrong.
"Serena, what the hell is going on? And don't lie either." I said, waiting for her response. She took a deep breath.
"Well, I won't be able to go to homecoming." she stated, playing with her fingers. I sighed in relief.
"That's it? You had me worried for a second. But that's fine, we can go somewhere else." I said.
"We can't."
"And why not?" I asked, confusion writted acroas my face.
"Because I'm... Going away for a while." She didn't look me in the eye.
"What? How long?"
"Long enough. I have to go" She stood up to leave. "I love you Craig."
I stood up and grabbed her arm before she could leave."You will be back, right" She smiled at me, and pulled me in for a kiss."Of course."
"And we're still doing the talent show, right?"
She leaned in and kissed me again. "Yes. I'm not going to be gone that long. But I have to get home now."
I drove Serena home, and she gave me one last lingering kiss before getting out of my car. I watched as she walked up to her front door, which her father had opened for her. He briefly glared in my direction, and Serena turned back and waved to me one last time before they both disappeared behind the door.
