Today was Leah's volleyball game and we had originally planned for all of us to go there together, but Serena was still grounded. So instead of going to the game, I decided to skip it and keep my girlfriend company. Surely Leah wouldn't mind. In fact, she would probably hurt me for leaving Serena all by herself on a Friday anyway. When I arrived, I parked my car at the side of the house and made my way towards her window around the back, holding my speakers in one hand and my notebook in the other.

Once I threw a pebble at her window, I hooked up my phone to the speaker, and played the instrumental to Shorty like Mine by Bow Wow. Serena opened her window and looked down at me with a confused expression written across her face.  I took a deap breath and began to sing Chris Brown's verse.

I got all this love inside of me

and all I wanna do is give it to her

I don't care what the fellas say bout it

cause I got something to say bout it

What I'm about to say is straight up

Real talk no cut I don't play bout it

There ain't a price you can put on a girl

Who knows just what to say

When you need to hear it the most

And I'ma tell you something else

If I don't know nothing else I know

Only thing that keeps me up

                   When I'm feeling down

                    I don't know bout you

But I gotta keep mines around

cause I done looked out and searched

                     and its hard to find

                Another shorty like mine

                       Shorty like mine

Once I was done singing the whole song to her, Serena gave me a round of applause. "I didn't know you could sing." She smiled,  looking down at me.

I rubbed the back of my neck.  "Actually no one knows. I like to keep my singing a secret." I told her. She thought for a moment, then shot me smile.

"You wanna come up?" I looked at her questionably. "Are you serious? Aren't you already grounded?"

"My dad isn't even home. Besides, what he doesn't know won't hurt him." She said,  smiling devilishly.

Serena let me in through the front door, and lead me up to her room. It was nothing that I had expected. Her bed with royal blue sheets rested against a wall that had been painted black, but the rest of the walls were the same color as her bed sheets. There was a zebra print loveseat in front of a small flat screen tv, and in the far corner there was a desk with a laptop resting on it.

We sat down on the loveseat, and I rested my song notebook down on a small table infront of the seat. Serena snatched it up and started to flip through before I could stop her. I watched as her eyes scrutinized my lyrics and became worried that she wouldn't like them.
