For anyone who thinks Melissa is just being mean to Harry, she's not. She is trying to keep from getting too close to him because she's heard the prophesy about them (not the one about the Dark Lord this is a different one. Harry will learn about it later on in the sequel book). Also, being raised by Remus, Melissa has a good level of respect for her parents but not Lily's family and she figures Harry is just like them(rude stuck up and jealous) and feels he hasn't tried to prove her wrong, at least not completely. Melissa does care about her brother but thinks he's destined to be evil.
