Prologue
The first thing I noticed as I woke up was complete and utter darkness. Popping the strains on my neck because of the difficult angle of my sleeping position, "Oh, shit!" was the first thing that came out of my mouth as soon as realisation dawned on me that the dark surroundings were, in fact, my classroom.
Yes, somehow I ended up sleeping in the last row of the seats in my home room. I hadn't been feeling particularly good today. There was a constant piercing headache since yesterday night and I couldn't take it anymore. So, I decided to take the last row and lower my head to ease some of the pain. Somehow, that turned out to be a very stupid idea, cause no one in my class thought it thoughtful to have a look around for little old me and wake me up from my blissful slumber. My heartbeat quickened because it's kind of a scary prospect to be left alone in the school on a...
"Oh God! It's the weekend!" And that meant I was all alone for two whole days. I shook my head at the dreadful thought because it was irrational. I had a phone. I could call a friend. Some friends... a sarcastic thought crossed and it made me take out my phone. I would've called mum and dad but they were out with my siblings to meet grandma. I couldn't go with them because of the exams just around the corner, hence the stupid evening make up class today, on a Friday nonetheless! Calling them would have brought me more trouble anyways.
The small light that came from the screen made me squint my eyes but the next moment they bulged out because my battery was almost drained. With shaky hands I found the contact I was looking for and tapped on the call option. I waited... and waited, but BEEP BEEP BEEP was only heard. I looked back at the screen and saw that there was no cellular signal.
I sighed, exasperated.
Looking around I could barely see anything because of the dark. So, I turned on my phone's flashlight, all the while praying for the phone to not die on me. Slowly, I approached the front of the class and reached for the door. I turned around the knob, with my fingers crossed, hoping against hope that the door would just miraculously open for me. But it was locked.
"Of course," I said in disdain to the silence of my home room. I looked out the glass panels of the door and saw nothing but darkness that filled the corridors. Hell, this could be a scene from a horror movie. "But I'd rather not live it," I mumbled, my mood souring with every passing moment.
Trying for the door again, but with no success, I turned around in the classroom. I grabbed the closest chair to me and slammed it hard across glass of the door. I grimaced at the loud shatter which resulted from breaking the glass. I covered one of my hands with my muffler and pushed away all the stray shrapnels that might cut me and placed the same muffler on the lower edge of the panel. Climbing through the opening, I straightened my clothes and turned around to see my work.
"I could get in trouble for this," I said looking at the damaged door. But then I just shrugged my shoulder and started towards the electric panel light up the dark eerie looking hallway, "To hell with it. I really don't care."
Approaching the electric penal, I pulled the lever down and the lights turned on. I went down to the lobby and looked around. For a moment I wondered what kind of security guards does the school have. After all, I did make quite a racket. And yet no one came to look for the source. Rolling my stiff shoulders, I gave up the thought and sat down in the lobby. Opening my bag, I took out my phone charger and plugged it to my phone. Then I made my call again.
"HELLO! This is Amelia Raynolds you're speaking to. Apologies for not being available at the moment. Please leave a message after the beep!"
And a message I did leave, alright. I mean, the girl never leaves my side during the school but didn't even bother to look for me after school. "Hey, Em. I just wanted to tell you that you kinda forgot to look for me after school and I'm still stuck here. Still being 8:00 pm on a Friday and here being our freaking school. But you needn't worry because I'm so mad at you, I'd choke you to death and bury your body in the school's backyard if I ever see you again. Have fun getting drunk on your stupid party." With that, I ended the message.
It took off the edge and I let out a deep sigh. I put my head against the back of the sofa and closed my eyes for a moment. Opening my eyes, I made another call. This time to the police.
