Chapter: 20
An Evening With The Kingston'sWith the press of a button on the small remote control in Adam's hand, the gates opened and no one from the security staff questioned. Adam parked the car in front of the main entrance of the Kingston mansion or castle; whatever you want to call it because I really couldn't tell one from the other. He immediately got out and opened my door for me, reaching out a hand, a small smile playing on his lips.
I gulped because this was something very new to me. It wasn't a homecoming or a prom night at school (not that I've attended any to begin with). No, it was a business event of great importance and I was an 18 years old girl, a date of possibly one of the wealthiest men in the world.
It was a scary prospect.
A thrilling one.
I placed my hand in Adam's and he gently yet firmly curled is fingers around mine.
As I got out, he placed a gentle hand low on my back, the small pressure of it easing my unease. The flashes of the cameras immediately made me squint my eyes.
"I'm tempted to get that mysterious device Bruce Wayne has that shuts down all the media in the Dark Knight."
I smiled, "Agreed. I love that movie by the way."
He nodded while looking ahead. His smile was replaced with a practiced seriousness that I am sure was reserved for events such as the one we were about to be a part of. "As do I."
The staff at the main entrance nodded respectfully at Adam as we made our way inside and towards the ballroom, where ever that was. The mansion was huge, intricately designed in a classy theme which was both intimidating and beautiful. And I know I'd been here before but I never really got to take in the fineness and vastness of it until this very moment.
"I never got a tour of this place," I said absently, taking in everything.
Adam tilted his head my way, "I never realised."
I looked back at him as well, "Neither did I."
We came to stop in front of a large set of double doors surrounded yet again by two staff members from housekeeping, I suppose. Just how many are there?
"Good evening, sir," one of the staff members greeted formally.
Adam nodded once and they opened the doors for us.
And I literally let out an amazed gasp.
Yes, it was just that beautiful!
The ballroom, it was like reliving a fairytale. The chandeliers and their golden glow illuminating the expansive space, the tall gold curtains fell down like waterfalls of silk, the buffet tables were set along the either sides of the hall and were filled with the most exotic and delicious quality of food you could imagine, the centre space was reserved for the dances; the light marble floor shining and polished that I could even see my reflection on it. Sculptures of intriguing variety were adding to the sophisticated theme. There were paintings that hung on the walls, giving a particular sort of devotedness to the hall, like it was meant to be more than just for casual gatherings of renowned business tycoons. The housekeeping staff stood crisp in their black and white uniforms, ready to deliver the small appetisers and complicated-high-society drinks when needed.
The people that filled the area were, I have no other word to put in, beautiful. The ladies with their elegant, shiny gowns and stylish jewellery and men in their custom-made, hand stitched suits. They all looked so arrogantly polite and detached. They all were perfect. The whole setting was perfect.
