Chapter: 5
A Knack For Killing Myself

"So, when do we start?"

I glared at Adam, my cheeks probably still pink as I hadn't gotten over the "Your Place, or Mine" thing. He chuckled again. He needs to stop doing that, I thought as my heart skipped a beat.

"I said, I was sorry." He feigned a thoughtful expression, then shook his head, "But damn, your expressions were worth it."

"Shut up." I started stalking away from that jerk.

But in two strides, he met my pace. "Come on, don't be a grinch."

I gave him a if-looks-could-kill glare which really didn't seem to have much of an effect on him.

He just smirked, "When do we start?"

"We'll start tomorrow." I eyes caught Sabrina and Em standing at the entrance of the academic block. I was about to say my goodbye to Adam when my curiosity got the best of me. I stopped walking. The guy nearly toppled over me but managed his balance in the nick of time.

He looked at me.

I looked at him.

He raised an eyebrow.

And I narrowed my eyes.

Then I asked the question that was killing me since recess, "How'd you do it?"

He blinked, "Pardon?"

"How'd you catch me from falling? Cause as far as I can remember, you were in the other corner of the cafeteria." He was about to say something when I beat him to it, "And my tray! How'd you manage that? And make it look like it wasn't touched at all!"

For a moment he just stared into my eyes. His penetrating gaze searching mine for something, but I didn't know what it was that he looked for. I turned away, afraid I'd lose my self in those swirling irises.

I felt the cool touch as his index finger held my chin and tilted my face up to see his handsome face. Just how tall is he? He gave me that ridiculously transfixing smirk of his, "Cause unlike a particular gauche I know, I happen to have fast reflexes." He paused, then added, "Also, I wouldn't want our school's only badass chick to make a joker out of herself just because of a stupid banana peel she overlooked."

My thought process took some time for me to realise that Adam was cutting jokes at my expanse because his touch had distracted me, giving me strange tingles at the point of contact. But I caught on and my gaze turned into narrowed eyes. And what I did next was a surprise to me as well.

I raised my hand and pinched his lips. It took a nano second for Mr. Cocky to back away in surprise.

He looked at me with raised eyebrows, surprise flitting across his features.

"Your stupid smirk is annoying." I shrugged my shoulders. Satisfied with myself, I turned on my heels and waved at my friends.
...

"Hey, mum!" I said as I threw my bag on the couch in the living room and kissed my mother on the forehead who was sitting in front of the huge flat screen.

I glanced into the kitchen and saw Ashley devouring french fries at the speed of light. She waved one single finger length fried chip in my direction. I rolled my eyes. "Where'd you find her, mum?"

My mum chuckled.

"No, really! Did someone leave her on our doorstep?" I asked seriously.

"I can hear you, Ray!" Ash shouted through the kitchen.
