Chapter: 14
Oh Cramp!I threw Adam off of me and since he was as surprised as I was, he fell back on his elbows. I, on the other hand, scrambled into a sitting position, my heart thudding fast against my chest. Of all the perfect timings to interrupt! I cursed silently.
The nurse seemed to have gotten over her shock and she gave Adam and I a pointed, scolding look, "This is the infirmary, not a lover's spot," she admonished us as if we were a pair of four year olds who got caught stealing from a cookie jar. "Now, unless you have a good reason to be here, go!" she shooed us.
Adam came out of his haze as he raked a hand through his hair and got up, "She had a concussion, ma'am. In case you haven't noticed the bandage on her forehead."
Is that frustration I hear in his tone?
The nurse's eyes widened in surprise, "Oh." She moved closer to have a look at me. I squinted at her as she started examining me, pushing the hairs on my forehead aside to look closely. "Well, that's taken care of," she said as she glanced at Adam, who was still very much shirtless and sexy-looking, standing a few steps behind me with a very annoyed expression on his face.
"How very observant of you," he remarked sarcastically as he picked up his discarded shirt and, much to my dismay, put it on; blood stains and all.
I raised both my brows in surprise, He's never been rude to anyone from the school staff...
The nurse ignored him and flashed her pen light in my eyes. I winced as pain shot through my eyes, "Ow!"
She tsk-tsked, "I'll give you some painkillers and you'll be good to go."
I nodded as I applied pressure on my temples with one hand to ease the sudden pain.
"Where is she! Where's my sister?!!"
Oh God, here we go... I closed my eyes tiredly.
The door barged open and in walked Ashley Elizabeth Ashton. She looked around wildly until her eyes found my reluctant ones. "There you are!" She all out tackled me to the bed, "What happened?" She looked up at my bandaged forehead, "Who did this to you?"
"How on earth did you get here-"
She didn't even listen to me as her eyes flashed with sudden annoyance as she stared at someone behind me. Her eyes narrowed, "You." She got up abruptly and stalked to her target.
Apparently, her said target was poor Adam Alexander Kingston. She, very boldly, poked her index in Adam's chest, "You! Why is it always you? Why do I find you around whenever my sister's in some bat-shit crazy situation?"
Adam raised a mildly surprised and an amused eyebrow at Ashley. Then looked down to where she was poking him. Ashley seemed to notice his gaze and pulled back her hand, fisting it on her side. "Trust me, kid. I've been wondering the same thing. Your sister's a magnet to the words trouble and danger. It's not my fault, really."
Ashley wasn't content with the answer, however. Her eyes were still narrowed, "What'd you do to her?"
I rolled my eyes at her dramatics, "Ash-"
"There you are!" All heads turned to the new voice. I recognised him immediately as the boy who was hand-in-hand with my sister during recess; Sean. He seemed to be looking for my sister, a worried expression on his face.
"You." I fixed my eyes on the boyfriend. He turned to look at me with widened eyes. "Contain your girlfriend. She's giving me a migraine." Then I looked at Ashley who seemed to have finally come out of her protective-sister phase, "And you, stop bullying Adam." I turned back to Sean and nodded him towards my sister. The boy immediately pulled Ashley away and bound her in his arms. I looked at the pair with curiosity as I sat up on the mattress with my legs dangling down, "Now. How did you find-"
