Chapter: 1
As Normal As It Gets

It took police a whole of 45 minutes, give or take, to reach me. Which is enough for any rapist to rape, a robber to rob and a murderer to murder someone and run away with it. And that's actually the time they took to enter the school premises. They wasted another 15 minutes to reach me. Turns out that the guard at duty was in a deep, heavenly slumber and wasn't in the least bothered by the sound of glass breaking earlier. Yeesh, they have only one night guard? The thought itself was absurd because our school was freaking huge.

I called the police because the whole building was locked up. And I didn't think it a good idea to try and break every single door of the school to get through.

"Ray Ashton?" a female police officer asked me.

I just gave her a look, Do you see anyone else here? I know I was being irrational. I mean, asking name was only part of the protocol but I was very much annoyed with my current situation. So, I just nodded my head.

The next hour went in interrogation of yours truly. I was tired as hell. Not only was my headache getting back at me, but I was itching for my bed in that exact moment.

"Do you want us to call your parents? They should know what happened."

I was eyeing the notice board on the side when I looked back at her. "I told them of what happened" I lied, cause I didn't want my parents to worry. "They are out of town at the moment. But I let them know of this whole incident. You can have a meet with them on Monday." I paused and thought of telling them about the broken window to prevent any trouble and make my lie a bit more plausible. "I was actually stuck in my classroom. So, I had to break the glass to get out. There were no signals, and I wasn't able to make a call until I got down here. Thought I'd tell you before the principal decides to throw a tantrum and sue me for ruining school property." I supplied in a bored tone. It was really our of my hands by now, my attitude, I mean. People act shitty when they're exhausted.

The officer actually smirked a little, "Alright, kid. Make sure your parents pay for the damage." She handed me a notice.

I rolled my eyes. "They kinda locked me in the class without looking around. I think that much damage is well deserved so that they don't forget students in the school before locking up."

"You did fall asleep, kid." She said matter-of-factly.

"That doesn't justify what happened. I wasn't feeling well. I'm only just human, ma'am."

The lady just shook her head lightly.

"Can I go now?"

"Do you have a ride?"

"Yes, I do. My home is just a few blocks away."

She nodded her head. "Alright, go then. And try not the fall asleep on weekends when there's evening classes happening from now on." Her tone was light with a hint of humour.

I just gave her a small smile, "I'll try. But I can't promise anything." I started towards the main entrance of the building. When I reached the door, I turned around and looked at the police officers that came for my rescue, "Next time try to be on time. Someone could've been murdered with the time that you took to come here." I just love having the last word. That said, I headed towards the bicycle stand.

I smiled as I saw my prized possession locked away on the stand, just like I put it there. Getting on my grey Dutch Bike, I made a beeline for home. Just thinking about my bed made me turn up the gears and paddle faster towards home.

When I reached home, I opened the locked door and only silence welcomed me at the threshold. There was an empty feeling to it cause no one was there. Usually my little sister wouldn't stop with her stories of school and the same goes for my brothers. I smiled fondly just thinking about them, already missing my family. Entering the kitchen, I made my self a cappuccino that my father dearest taught me in my younger days. Grabbing an aspirin from one of the cabinets, I went into my room.
