I stood outside Matty's apartment, the time being 3am, I don't expect him to answer suddenly. Plus, the situation isn't exciting.

Matty answered the door, his tired eyes restless, and a blanket around him.

"Okay, don't say anything before I finish," I began.

"Okay..."

"Now that my dad's death is today, I'm thinking back to what I promised him," I stated. "I told him I'd make him proud, and that he didn't have to worry." Matty nodded.

"And he was always very protective of me, he always made sure I was raised correctly because I'm older than my siblings," I paused. "I don't know if..." I began tearing up.

"Babe-"

"Hush," I shook my head. "I feel like we're moving to fast, Matty."

Matty raised his eyebrows. "W- what do you mean?"

"We went to New York, we're saying we love each other, you've met my entire family basically," I explained. "We've only been together two and a half months, Matty."

"So you're breaking up with me?" Matty's face hardened.

"Matty please," I begged. "I love you and I really do, but I'm afraid I'm doing everything wrong."

Matty squinted his eyes. "And breaking up with me will make everything right?"

"Matty," I cried. "Give me time, I know I don't want to end this, please-"

"I'm done with sentences like that," Matty shook his head. "And for a minute I actually thought I was happy with someone."

Matty slammed the door in my face.

I stood outside, feeling like my heart had been ripped out of my chest and destroyed.

I turned around and took a step, but I rushed back to the door.

"Matty, please," I sniffled. "Hear me out."

There was silence.

"You make everything okay, you make me feel like I'm going to be fine. You make me excited for the future. I've never felt like how I do when I'm with you, I truly and deeply love you, Matty... I do."

I placed my forehead against the door. "I just want to figure out during this if I'm okay without you. I want to know if all these things you're doing for me aren't persuading my mind... that's all. I want to make sure that I really need you... and right now I do."

I stayed at his door for a second or two before I heard a deep breath, he was listening!

"I'm sorry about your dad's death, and I understand... partially." Matty replied. "Will you tell me soon if it's not going to work out?"

I nodded, "Yes, and thank-you, Matty... for everything."

I walked away from Matty's door, tears staining my cheeks as I walked back to my apartment.

Once I walked into my apartment I saw Leo looking in my room, he turned to me and had a confused look. "Sari? What's wrong?"

"I broke up with Matty," I answered. "I felt like we were moving too quickly."

Leo quickly hugged me, rubbing my back. "It's okay," Leo assured. "I know. I found out Gracie was cheating last week."

"Leo, you didn't tell me... why didn't you tell me?" I asked.

"You had just gotten back from your trip... I didn't want to lay my problems on you."

I nodded, "So now we're both heartbroken."

"Yep."

I had cried most of the morning, the only time I wasn't balling my eyes out was when I was driving, and only because I was trying to drive safely.

I pulled into Uncle Ed's driveway, and saw Genesis and Maverick walk out, both of them looking sad.

Once they got in the backseat, I turned and smiled softly to them. "Hey guys," I sighed. "Even if today is not a good day, we can make it one."

"How?" Maverick looked up at me, his eyes gleaming. "We were all extremely close to Dad."

"Maves," I took a deep breath. "Instead of thinking about Dad's death, think about everything amazing about him... think about how he took care of all of us. Think about Saturday bowling."

Maverick nodded, and I began driving.

Halfway to the cemetery, Genesis spoke up. "Sari?"

"Yes?" I replied.

"How is Matty?" Genesis questioned.

I paused, biting my lip. "Gen, we... we broke up."

"What!" Mav yelled. "Why? He was perfect! He treated you right! He cared about you, he even took care of me!"

"Maves," Genesis scolded. "Wh- what happened, sissy?"

I sighed, "I thought we were moving too quickly for only being together for a few months... I told him I needed to make sure I wasn't in a daydream, and he said okay."

"I actually thought I had a chance of having a brother figure," Maverick grumbled.

"Maverick," I shook my head. "I think we're going to get back together. I told him I needed at least a week, not very long..."

"I told him about Ethan and Ben," Maverick spat.

"Maverick!" I exclaimed, stopping the car. "Why did you tell him?"

"He needed to know, so he would take care of you more. They hurt you so much I thought he could help you more than anyone else," Maves explained. "I was trying to help."

I turned back to the car wheel. "I'm sorry I'm acting like this you guys," I felt tears in my eyes. "Today is just really hard for me, and I know it is for you guys too."

"Sari don't cry," Genesis unbuckled and placed her head on my shoulder. "Daddy hated when we cried."

I shook my head, my face in my hands.

Little one,
Little one,
Don't you cry,
Daddy loves you,
And you will always be tied

Little one,
Little one,
Daddy hates your tears,
Tell Daddy your fears,
And he'll protect you from them

Genesis sang softly, and once she finished I turned to her. "How do you remember that?"

"Daddy sang it to me before he died," Genesis smiled. "He told me he'd make sure I would be okay, that you and Maverick would always protect me."

I smiled, pulling Genesis into a tight hug, "He is right."
