The hobbit was certainly taking too long in his decision, I for one highly doubt it. He has never left the comforts of his home nor stepped outside the boundaries of Shire. As for the girl, she had made her decision & seems confident in taking part of our company. Balin looked at me first then he walked towards her. She sensed Balin near her as he cleared his throat lightly, she turned slowly.
Balin: "Pardon my curiosity, my dear. I know Gandalf had indeed favored you to be a part of our company. But I wish to hear it from you, if there is no offense that is."
Anya:(Smiling at Balin)"None taken, Master Balin. I can understand what you are referring to. I have practically lived outdoors nearly half of my life, rest assured I shall bear no ill-will on this journey."
I huffed slightly at what she said I stepped forward folding my arms as I looked into her eyes, hoping to somehow discourage her.
Thorin: "Still what if some sort of mishap does occur to you then? Can you cope with the situation, lass?"
Anya:(Straightening her shoulders)"As I said, Master Dwarf, that I can handle myself very well. I know how adapt myself towards any situation thrown at me."
Frankly that surprised me, I could tell by this determined gleam in her beautiful eyes that she will not back down easily then. We stared at each other for a minute longer, then she averted her eyes, shook her head began to walk away from us. Her shoulder brushed against mine, smirking to myself as I watched her open the door & step outside. Probably to blow out some steam, I suppose, I shook my head. Balin came towards me, he had the similar look on his face.
Balin: "Well, that answers that, she is not backing out. She has a strong-willed spirit in her I can tell."
Thorin:(Sighing, amused)"Not to mention also a stubborn nature in her, Balin."
Balin:(Laughing lightly)"Aye, that is true, almost like a dwarrowdam. I'm beginning to suspect that she can handle herself well out there. She even looked at you squarely in the eyes, Thorin, she didn't even flinch. How many female have you known done that?"
Thorin:(Frowning)"None that I can recall, my friend."
Balin:(Chuckling lightly)"Thats our 14th member lets see if Gandalf can persuade Master Baggins."
So we waited for a few minutes I often would steal a glance at the door hoping to catch a glimpse of the girl. Then my inner voice spoke up for the first time, What are you thinking, Thorin Oakenshield, she is just another female like many that you have met. So what if she is an attractive woman but do not forget the real reason you are here. The quest in getting your
people their homeland back & retrieve the Arkenstone to claim your right to rule as the King. I slightly shook my head, I turned my head & saw just in time as the hobbit heading towards his bedroom! Typical, so he declined our offer just as I expected he would.
Balin: "It appears we have lost our burglar, probably for the best. The odds were always against us. After all, what are we? Merchants, miners, tinkers & toymaker. Hardly the stuff of legend."(Sighing).
Thorin:(Smiling)"There are a few warriors."
Balin: "Old warriors!"
I looked at Balin & smiled slightly at what he just said.
Thorin: "I would take each & everyone of these dwarfs over an army from Iron Hills. For when I called upon them they answered. Loyalty, honor & a willing heart. I can ask for no more than that."
Balin: "You don't have to do this, laddie. You have a choice, you have done honorably for our people. You have built a new life for us in the Blue Mountains. A life that is worth more than all the gold in Erebor."
I pulled out the key which Gandalf gave me.
Thorin: "From my grandfather to my father, this came to me. They dreamt of a day when the dwarfs of Erebor would reclaim their homeland. There is no choice, Balin, not for me."
Balin:(Nodding)"Then we are with you, laddie. We will see it done."
Smiling he came near & patted my arm gently, we have been friends for a long time. Together we have through a lot ever since our banishment from Erebor. Then Gandalf came by, he seemed a little flustered about something. Probably not being able to convince Bilbo Baggins to be our burglar.
Gandalf: "Ah! Balin, by chance have you seen Anya? I thought she'd be here."
Balin: "Yes, I believe she stepped outside the house, my friend."
He slightly nodded his head & headed towards the door. I let out a deep breath, I guess it was inevitable of tomorrow shall bring. After informing the company that we shall depart before dawn for our journey. Soon we were all in the parlor, standing near the fire place, I began to hum the song of old.'Far over the misty mountains cold,
To dungeons deep & caverns old,
We must away, ere break of day,
To find our long forgotten gold.'Then the others joined in.
'The pines were roaring, on the height.
The winds were moaning, in the night,
The fire was lit, its flaming spread,
The trees like torches blazed with light.'We decided to spend the night in the little hobbit hole, some rolled their bedrolls while the others either slept on chairs or the sofa. As for the girl, she was given the guest room. We all slept till the light of dawn could be seen. As I sat up I noticed the chairs were empty where Fili & Kili chose to sleep. I looked about me as I rolled my bed, Balin & Dwalin came beside me they had the same question in their eyes. The door opened & to our shock I saw Fili carrying a basketful of vegetables. His sleeves were rolled up, did he take those from the hobbit's garden? My oldest nephew looked at me & smiled.
Fili: "Ah! Uncle, you are awake! Good Morning!"
Beside me Dwalin raised his eyebrows at him, then we heard another pair of footsteps to our right, it was Kili.
Fili: "Kili, if you are done in the kitchen then go outside & grab the other basket will you? Is Dori still in the pantry?"
Kili:(Nodded, smiling)"Aye, both his brothers are with him as well. Good Morning, Thorin!"
At that we exchanged confused glances, what in Durin's name going on here. Knowing my nephews they would never wake this early! I saw Dwalin head towards the pantry & Balin stopped Ori who was carrying the pieces of a broken plate.
Balin: "Here now, laddie, what is going on here? Where is everyone?"
Ori:(Smiling, shyly)"Well, the thing is, Mr Balin, we are just lending a helping hand to Miss Anya."
Thorin:(Looking at Ori, confused)"Helping her? With what?"
Ori:(Smiling)"Well she was awake long before either of us. So we decided to help as well."
Fili:(Coming towards me with Dwalin)"Thats right, uncle, Kili & I are helping in bringing the fruits & vegetables from the garden, Gloin is fixing the lavatory, Bofur helped along with Bombur & Bifur with cleaning & dusting."
Dwalin:(Scowling)"But why in Durin's name for, laddie?"
Kili: "Why not? After the mess we made in Bilbo's home last night? The least we could do is mend some damages. Besides we are almost done."
Fili came towards his brother took the fruit basket from him while Kili stepped outside to get more.
Dwalin:(Crossing his arms)"That girl is smarter than I thought she is."
For a moment it sounded as if he either admiring her or mocking her.
Balin: "Still I agree with the lads, Thorin."
Thorin: "Maybe, Ori, where is she?"
Ori pointed towards the kitchen, with quick steps I walked in there. Once there I saw her, she was stacking the plates in the shelves. I just stood there watching her work. Then suddenly one plate slipped from her hands, swiftly I grabbed before it shattered on the floor. I noticed Anya's hand was also on it, slowly my eyes locked with her golden orbs & we slowly stood up still holding the plate.
