We were up before dawn, standing by the bridge. Rechecking our supplies just to make sure not to leave anything behind. Dwalin was standing guard to make sure no elf sees us, everyone was present minus Gandalf & Anya Hadin. Then she came out heading towards us she turned to Dwalin & greeted him by nodding her head surprisingly he nodded back. She waved at us & my nephews along with Bofur waved back. I could not help staring at her as she came closer.
She left her long hair loose as usual wearing her jacket with Bofur's brooch & her long black boots. Her outfit was a full-length black outfit making her appear slightly taller. The brown vest was complimenting her slim figure. She looked simply breathtaking to me. She wasn't even looking in my direction as if she could sense my eyes on her, I smirked, so the last night's effect was lingering on her mind as well. The sound of laughter brought me back to my senses. My nephews & the others were laughing about something, the hobbit was blushing.
Thorin: "Come on, we better get a move on before these elves stop us!"
Bilbo: "Wait, shouldn't we wait for Gandalf first? He isn't here yet!"
Thorin: "We do not have time to wait for him, Master Baggins. I'm sure the wizard shall catch up with us eventually."
Everyone gathered their baggage & we crossed the bridge making our way out of Rivendell. The place had its own charm that I cannot deny but Erebor was my home.
Thorin: "Be on your guard, we are about to step into the Edge of the wild. Balin, you know these paths lead on."
The older dwarf nodded & went up ahead. Looking back I saw the hobbit stop to stare at the place below. Anya came near him placing her hand on his shoulder, I frowned.
Anya: "I know that this place is full of wonders, Bilbo Baggins. Tell you what once this quest is done, we shall come back here. You can stay here for as long as you wish. Okay?"
The hobbit turned to smile at her, for some reason this annoyed me. Anya patted his shoulder & began to walk towards me, her eyes lowered. She brushed past me I could still smell her wonderful scent of wild jasmine. Soon, Anya Hadin, soon. I looked back at the hobbit, I was tempted to leave him behind but as our official burglar, not possible.
Thorin: "Master Baggins, I suggest that you keep up!"
He slowly nodded his head & trailed along, soon we were on our way. We continued to trek for a few days on foot, stopping for camps for resting & spending the night. During that time Anya took the task upon herself to train Bilbo Baggins in how to use his sword. It was small, elvish made of course. Gandalf probably found it among the trolls hoard it seems. At first I wanted to disapprove but the stubborn little minx had her own way. It was interesting to watch though as she began to teach the hobbit a few pointers. Although I pretended to be aloof but I could not resist to watch them. Surprisingly they did well, Anya was a good teacher & she was patient with the halfling, at first he was reluctant but he was a quick learner. This continued each time we stopped to camp. I was watching the girl mostly, she was graceful & her face was glowing. One time Anya somehow knocked the hobbit down & he fell on his back. We all laughed at this even the hobbit joined in instead of being offended. I stopped laughing when I noticed Anya staring at me, our gazes locked momentarily. But she quickly averted her gaze making me chuckle lightly. Its been a long time since I had felt this way. Once even Gloin tried to teach the hobbit how to use an axe but he refused. In a couple of days we reached the mountain pass, headed for the misty mountains. But upon reaching there the rainy storm hit us, making the trek impossible. Yet we kept going & I was leading this time.
Thorin: "Steady, hold on! We must find shelter."
I kept looking back from time to time just to make sure everyone was a counted for. The hobbit was just near the rear with Dwalin & Bofur. And Anya was with my nephews not far from me, her face was covered by her hood so I could not see her face. Yet she was cooperative. The thunder kept booming above us while the rain was coming down heavily. Next I heard a commotion behind me, the hobbit almost lost his footing but luckily Dwalin managed to pull him back. Curse him, he was starting to get on my nerves.
Dwalin: "LOOK OUT!"
Looking up to my dismay a huge stone came hurtling down towards us. We flattened ourselves against the stone wall to avoid being hit by the stone. I saw Kili covering Anya with his body. By Durin, we need to find a shelter & quick.
Balin: "This isn't a thunderstorm but it is a thunder-battle. Look!"
We all turned to look at what he was pointing at. To my great shock I saw not one but two giant stone monsters, what the!?!
Bofur: "Bless me, then the legends are true! Giants, stone giants!"
I for one did not care about any legends as one of the stone giant hurled a stone towards us & Bofur was standing near the edge.
Thorin:(Shouting over the storm)"Take cover, you fool!"
The others pulled him back just in time just as that stone missed us. Then a sound of cracking could be heard. Turning behind to my dismay I saw the stone wall starting to crack between my nephews. Fili tried to reach for his brother but too late. Kili could have fallen had it not been for Anya holding his arm. Those two have never been apart in their life. Next thing I knew we were all standing upon the knees of a third giant stone monster. By Mahal, we were indeed caught in a thunder battle. One of the stone giants butted its head against our stone giant. Causing its left leg to swing on which myself, Kili & Anya were on. It crashed near a ledge quickly we scrambled off it, fast. Making it to safety but the others weren't so lucky. Then I saw a stone monster throw a stone towards our giant knocking its head off. We watched in horror as the body began to collapse. The leg on which Fili & the others were on began to hurl towards a stone wall. My heart dropped just as it collided, by Durin.
Thorin: "NO! NO!"
I watched as the body fall in the deep chasm below us, Fili! I ran over rounding the corner.
Thorin: "NO! FILI!"
There I saw them including my older nephew, bruised yet alive, I slumped my shoulders in relief.
Gloin: "Its alright, we're alive."
Now that was an understatement coming from Gloin. As I walked over to them I spotted a cave, thank Durin. I was about to call Dwalin for assistance when I heard Bofur's alarmed voice.
Bofur: "Where is Bilbo? Where is our hobbit?"
Anya: "W...what do you mean? He was with you lot wasn't he?"
Groaning in frustration I headed back, they were leaning over the edge. They must've spotted him below, dammit. Ori & Bofur tried to reach him, Anya was there as well. The hobbit almost lost his grip yet he hung on. Almost I mean almost I was tempted to leave him there, dangling.
Anya: "Bilbo, hang on! I'm coming down to get you."
What!?! I held her back pulling her by the arm, she was about to say something but I stopped her with a look. Huffing, I climbed down towards him grabbed his bag & pulled him up. I pushed him till both Ori & Bofur were able to pull him to safety. I began to climb back up but I almost slipped, a pair of soft yet firm hands held mine. Looking up, it was Anya, she tried to pull me up but Dwalin came by her side. Together they pulled me up, Anya seemed relieved to see me safe then she got to her feet & she was next to the hobbit, curse it. I turned my back against them.
Dwalin: "Thank God! I thought we almost lost our burglar."
Thorin:(Sparing a glare behind me)"He has been lost ever since he walked out of his door. He should never have come. He has no place amongst us. Dwalin!"
I could feel a pair of eyes burning at my back, not caring whose by the way. Dwalin & I headed into the cave I had discovered earlier, for our shelter.
