We entered the cave to get out of the cold. I told Dwalin to search the cave for they are seldom occupied, soon the others piled in. Relieving themselves of their baggage, I glanced at the girl following the hobbit inside. She removed her hood looking about her rubbing her cold hands. Regrettably I could not risk getting any fire started, not in this place.
Dwalin: "All clear here, looks safe enough!"
I nodded my head, Gloin had just about to start a fire but I stopped him.
Thorin: "No fires, not in this place."
Balin: "We were supposed to meet Gandalf at the mountain pass. That was the plan."
Thorin:(Glancing at Balin)"Plans have changed. Get some rest we shall leave before the first light. Bofur you take the first watch."
A few minutes later while everyone else were settling in Dwalin & I were discussing about how to reach the lonely mountain, without any obstacles in the way. Such as orcs & wargs. Then Dwalin was staring at something behind me raising his eyebrows. Curiously I turned to look behind me, it was Anya. I thought she was sleeping like the others, she was heading towards us. Her face looked flushed.
Anya: "Thorin, mind if I have a word with you? Excuse us, Mr. Dwalin."
Nodding his head, we turned aside to talk in private, I was about to speak but she interrupted me.
Anya: "Was it really necessary as to what you said back there?"
Thorin:(Raising my eyebrows, amused)"I'm sorry, did I miss something?"
Clearly I could tell that she wasn't the least bit intimidated by me & I like that about her.
Anya:(Huffing lightly)"Don't be daft, you know very well what you said to Bilbo Baggins. There was no reason to do that."
Thorin: "I see, but I simply stated the truth, lass. You can clearly see for yourself, he has no sense as it is."
Anya:(Placing her hands on her hips)"How would you know? Okay, I admit Bilbo is not accustomed to this kind of venture like you & I are. But all of this is new & frightening for him. The least we could do is lend him a shoulder now & then."
Thorin:(Frowning)"Are you suggesting that we ought to babysit him? At this rate the Durin's Day shall pass & we will have nothing!"
Anya: "That is not what I meant, now seriously listen to me, Thorin, Bilbo did not choose to be here, alright. Gandalf chose him for a reason & I happen to trust his judgement. Besides the hobbit did save us from those trolls remember?"
Did she had to remind me about that, now that was unnecessary. It really annoys me that she is taking that hobbit's side, defending him. Her innocent naivety surprises me. I grumbled in my native language so as to not offend her, I began to walk away. But she held me back by grabbing my arm. I held my breath staring in her golden-brown eyes.
Anya: "Whoa, there I'm not finished yet please, Thorin, cut him some slack for once. He is a good person at heart. Who knows he might surprise you in the end!"
I saw her left eye twitch a little when upset. I looked at her hands still holding my arm. I wanted touch her but she quickly removed them & then stepped back. Despite the darkness in the cave I could see her blushing slightly. I smirked knowing the fact that I was getting to her, the little minx. I laid down on my back staring at roof of the cave. I began to recall the conversation I had with Anya about the hobbit. The way she defended the halfling irked me. I wish that there was some way I could convince her about not to put too much faith on him. I could not help but imagine what it would be like if she felt the same way about me. Sighing heavily I stood up & stretched my limbs, getting rid of some stiffness. The company were sound asleep, turning I saw the hobbit. I frowned thinking about the fondness Anya feels for him. Huffing, I decided to step outside for a while, nodding at Bofur who was on watch. Once outside I could see that the storm had slowed down a little but it was still raining. I stayed there for few minutes then went back to inside. Adjusting my eyes in the darkness, my gaze landed on the girl. She was asleep I could tell. Slowly I walked towards her stepping carefully over others. I just stood there at first, then bent down staring at her rosy tinged face. I slowly sucked in my breath as my eyes wandered her body. I could not help wondering what it would be like to hold her in my arms, feel her warmth. I smiled to myself just imagining it. I touched her warm cheek with the back of my fingers, her long lashes fluttered slightly. I pulled back, relieved that I did not disturb her. I tucked back a strand of her hair which was kissing her cheek. She really is an alluring creature, no female has ever captured my heart like she had during our first meeting, her eyes.
Thorin:(Khuzdul)"By Mahal, Ghiveshel, you have no idea what kind of a spell you have on me. No matter how hard I try but you always draw me closer to you."
Sighing heavily, I stood up & headed to my spot to catch some shut eye. Without Gandalf we had to move on towards the Lonely Mountain before Durin's Day. For how long I had slept, no idea but I awoke with a slight jolt hearing familiar voices, the hobbit? What is he up to?
Bilbo: "No, you don't understand, none of you do. You are dwarfs, you are used to this life. Always on the road, never settling in one place. Not belonging anywhere."
I cringed slightly at these harsh words from the hobbit, who was he talking to?
Bilbo: "Look, I'm sorry, I didn't mean..."(Clearing his throat, awkwardly).
Bofur: "No, you are right, we don't belong anywhere."
I frowned detecting sadness in his voice. I felt someone stir & standing up.
Anya: "Oi, what is going on here? You are leaving us? For real, but where will you go?"
Bilbo: "Back to Rivendell first then return to Shire, my home."
Anya: "Bilbo Baggins, please look at me & tell me that the reason you are leaving us because of what Thorin said?"
Bilbo: "I cannot lie to you, Anya. He was right I should not have come. Besides I'm a Baggins not a Took. I made it this far because of you & I shall always be grateful, but I do feel like a burden."
He had definitely changed his mind so he is leaving. Part of me does feel bad for what I had said back then.
Anya:(Sighing)"Guess there is no way I could make you change your mind now, can I?"
I did not like the disappointed tone in her voice.
Bilbo: "But I shall never forget you, Anya, in fact all of you."
Anya: "Very well, you be careful alright! Be sure to send me a letter through Lord Elrond once you've reached Rivendell safely, okay?"
Rivendell, surely that place cannot be Anya's permanent home, could it?
Bofur: "Aye, I wish you all the luck in the world. I really do. What is that?"
As soon as the optimistic dwarf said those I began to sense something wrong. I looked down & started hearing odd sounds below us. Not liking it one bit.
Thorin: "Wake up! Wake up!"
Before anyone could move the floor beneath us gave away. Making us fall down this cavern at such speed that there was no way of either stopping, nor slowing down. I landed first in this wooden cage. Then I was knocked down by something or rather like someone landing on top of me. Looking into her flushed face of Anya Hadin. Instinctively, my arms went around her rolling her beneath me just as the others landed. I did not want to see her get hurt. A pair of legs landed on my back causing me to grunt, I gazed in her eyes for a moment before on her golden locket. By the strong stench of this place I could easily guess our situation. Anya then clutched me looking over my shoulder, her eyes going huge in dismay. I could hear loud screeching sounds behind us. GOBLINS!?! Foul creatures. We've landed in their territory.
