Chapter Thirteen: Maple

We got back to the mansion and I asked Delbert if I could keep Red.

"Red? You named it?" he shouted.

"Red is not an 'it' he is a living being! How would you like it if I called you that thing?" I asked. Brody was in the doorway of the room. He quietly laughed, so that it was barely audible.

"Well, no. you cant keep the dog." Delbert ignored what I said, and Brody's laughing.

"Why?"

"Because, I want what's best for you. And a dog isn't best for you. Plus, no one could take care of it when you're a fox."

"Once again, he. Not it. And you can change at free will. So you can take care of him. or Duke. Or a whole bunch of other people.

"Why do you want a dog anyway? Why the sudden interest?"

"You know I've always wanted a dog. I was going to get one, but you talked mom and dad out of it. Its your fault I don't have one already, this dog has no family, and you're forcing me to live somewhere that I don't want to live. You owe me." I stared into his eyes, as he just looked at me.

"H-how did you know that I talked mom and dad out of letting you get a dog? Did they tell you?"

"No. I have werefox hearing. Werefox hearing, that's better than yours. What did you think would happen? Did you think that I would just ignore, you taking away my dream? I have always wanted a dog. I never stopped wanting one. And I wont stop now. So, you can compromise and let me keep Red, and I'll live in the mansion; or, I'll live by myself, but no dog." I stated.

"Fine. You can keep the stupid dog. You have one more night to live in the house that you grew up in. Tomorrow you need to bring all of your stuff to the mansion. Your room is going to be the attic, because we ran out of rooms with girls in them. There are only guy rooms left-" Delbert was cut off by a growl.

"And you're not staying in a room with a guy." Brody growled.

"Thank you for saying that for me, my little sister's over-possessive not-yet-boyfriend." Delbert said. Brody just rolled his eyes and I laughed.

"Yeah. Not-yet.-boyfriend. But soon." Brody said, smirking.

"Oh please. I'm not dating 'till I'm married." I joked.

"Delbert, start planning the wedding." Brody said, with a smirk. I rolled my eyes and laughed at him. but, Delbert growled.

"No. She's only 16. She's not getting married." He said.

"Dude, it was a joke. Look who's being possessive now." I said.

"Oh the irony." Brody said.

"Both of you shut up." Delbert rolled his eyes. "Maple, go get your stuff ready for tomorrow. By the way, Nikki and LaCie are going to be staying with you tonight."

"What? You don't trust that I wont kill myself?" I pretended to pout. "Good judgment." I nodded, in approval.

"Haha. Very funny." He said, sarcasm oozing out of his mouth.

"Aren't I?" I replied, laughing. I started to eave, and Brody was following me. Oh great. We're not dating, and he's one of those over protective boyfriends. He isn't my boyfriend! But, Delbert stopped him.

"Brody, can you stay here? I want to talk to you. We got off on the wrong foot. I was just stressed out." Delbert said. Brody had this look on his face. The look that said "Oh. Can I die now?" I laughed and walked away.
