Chapter Ten: Maple

I sat in the driveway waiting for Brody. I kept thinking about him, and where he was, and what he was doing-not the one important thought. I was laying in the middle of a driveway. Where cars park. And I was skinny. So people wouldn't see me easily.

Suddenly I felt something crushing my ribs and heard little crackling noises. I was just run over.

Well this is normal, I found my true love and got run over. Probably by my true love!!!! I thought. I sighed and sat up. When I looked up I saw a worried Brody and a blue 1964 Camaro. "That car is so amazing." I thought out loud.

"So is the fact that you're not dead!" Brody said.

"Werefoxes heal fast. Why should she be dead?" a voice behind me spoke. Jason.

"None of your business." Brody snapped back.

He scoffed. "I'm the leader. Everything that happens to my werefoxes is my business."

"I don't belong to you. Or anyone." I growled.

"Are you ok Maple? You've never growled at me before. No matter how mad you were."

"Well, I found out that you've liked me and now, you want to keep my true love away from me." I gasped and covered me mouth. I shouldn't have said that. Now he was going to know that I heard him and banish me.

"He told you?" Jason shouted, "I'll kill you!" he yelled, at Brody.

"Oh, so that you can make Maple fall in love with you? I'm her true love. Not you. Get over it." Brody said.

"Whatever. Just tell me why she should be dead."

"I got myself run over." He stared at me like I had three heads. "I was laying in the driveway, like I always do, which Brody didn't know so he came and drove over me. Not his fault. Totally my fault." I laughed. Brody nervously laughed. I wasn't sure if it was at me or at Jason. He stared at Brody like he was a piece of meat.

"Ok. I, unfortunately, can believe that. But, Maple, stop sitting in the middle of the rad and driveways!"

"They're more comfortable than the sidewalk!" I yelled at Jason, as he retreated to the house. "Stop staring! I sit in the driveway...occasionally...or a lot."

"Maple..." He trailed off. Not my fault people were stupid and made the road more comfortable than the sidewalk.

"What?"

"Do you have a problem that makes you do things like that?"

"Yes. Its called you left and I think better in driveways."

"What?" he laughed.

"Well, you're my true love, and I think better lying down in driveways."

"Ok. I'm not going to ask why you cant think not in the driveway, like a normal person."

"Exactly! Like a normal person. One, I'm not 100% person. Two, its too normal!"

"Oh, I see, you want to be a freak."

"Shut up." I laughed.

"Make me!" He joked.

"Oh, I will. You should know that by now." And within seconds of saying that, he was lying on the ground and I was sitting on his stomach.

"How did you do that so fast?"

I shrugged, "It's a talent."

"Yeah. It's an amazing talent that I wish I possessed."
