Chapter Eighteen: Maple
Brody asked me to go to my secret entrance. Only I knew where it was, so I don't see what the problem with people having a .000001% chance of getting in was, but I didn't care. Time to be isolated from people. I went into the basement no one knew we had, then into my little cellar with a tunnel going out of it. I didn't really use it anymore, seeing as it was the size of a rabbit hole.
I sat on the little rug I had put in an Red sat next to me. I waited for what felt like hours, although I knew it was only about 30 minutes. I heard voices above me. I couldn't tell who it was, because the cellar muffled their voices, but they were talking about the attack.
"How do we get everyone in?" The first voice asked.
"I don't know. Maple wont tell anyone about her secret entrances . She denies she even has them." Said a second, more familiar, voice.
"Well, you could get everyone into a safe house or something. Then we could easily take over and we would both rule two state's worth of werefoxes." I mentally made a checklist of thing to find out.
Names:
Plans:
Motive: Take over 2 states of magical creatures.
It was then that I realized how weird my life was.
"We don't have a safe house."
"Why not? A good leader would have one to protect his foxes." Leader?
"Well look who's talking, the person threatening my foxes."
Leader?
"Whatever. We have to get everyone in the house now, then we are the two most powerful werefoxes in history."
Leader?

I went to the door and waited. What was I supposed to do? Go outside and kill my dad, or just wait for him to come, then kill him. I decided to wait; it would be safer. Everyone started enclosing the house, and before I knew it, they were trying to bust the door down.
Everyone inside got knives and any other items we could use as weapons and got to the doors and windows. I looked out a window, and saw my dad yelling at someone. He didn't see me. I ran away from the window, not wanting to be seen yet.
If he saw me, he would break the window and kill me for lying to him. he wouldn't give it a second thought. He didn't care about family, he cared about revenge. Cold blooded revenge. Of course, he cared about mom. But that was it. Revenge, and mom.
I heard a slam and turned to see the door broken down.
I looked at the person standing on the other side of the door and relaxed a bit once I saw that it wasn't my dad. I didn't recognize her. She looked like she was about my age. Maybe a year younger. 16 or 17? She made eye-contact with me and walked over.
"I'm helping all of you get out." The girl whispered, "Our leader is insane. The loss of her family drove her mad."
"What's the plan?" I asked, in a hushed tone.
"Get everyone you can, and come with me. I'd start with your friends, their true loves, and yours. Alright?"
"How-?"
"I know more than you would think. Quickly, Brody Fox." She smirked. I ran to find Delbert, Duke, Walter, LaCie, Nikki, and, of course, Maple and Red. I had no idea where Jason and my mom were, plus I figured they would spare my mom, and Jason hated me for having a true love. I followed my senses to Maple, and found her in a cellar in the basement.
We had a basement? I really need to look around this house.
"How did you find me?" Maple asked, bewildered.
"Magic." I said, helping her and red out of the cellar.
"What are we doing?"
"Getting everyone we can out. I found you first. Lets spread out and look for our friends, Delbert and anyone else we can find. We're going to save them. Lets go."
We went our separate ways, and met back at the front door with about 20 people.
"Alright. Let's go." Said the nameless girl I had met earlier.
I walked over to Maple, who was having a conversation with the nameless girl as we ran away from her home.
"Where are we going, Stella?"
"I don't know. Away from here?" Stella replied, as more of a question.
I stood beside Maple and we ran in silence. She lost her home, I lost my parents. I turned around, and saw LaCie and Walter with LaCie's Brother, Declen. They were talking about something, and LaCie was just laughing. Duke and Nikki were racing, and every time that one would catch up to the other, they felt the need to make out...while running. That wasn't working.
I looked over at Delbert and saw him with Sapphire. They too felt the need to make out while running. I looked back at Maple, and noticed that she had tears about to spill out of her eyes. I didn't know what to do, so I just stared for a minute. Finally, I said, "It'll be okay. Don't worry. We'll figure out how to get your home back." She just nodded and continued running in silence.
At some point, Delbert came over to Maple. It was about sunset, and we were all starting to get hungry and tired. Delbert talked to Maple for a while before we finally stopped and a few people went to hunt. Maple, Delbert, Sapphire, and myself started to find spots to sleep. Since there were a lot of people other than us and our friends, we ended up sleeping in a tree.
Maple said that she would take the first watch and wake us up if anything happened. Everyone else went to sleep, but I stayed up all night. It wasn't that I didn't trust her; it was just that she and Delbert had lost so much. If something happened to one of them, I wouldn't be able to live. I already loved Maple, and Delbert and I were becoming friends.
If Maple got hurt, I wouldn't be able to live because she's my true love. If Delbert got hurt, I wouldn't be able to live because he's my friend, and Maple loves him.
I stayed up and watched as Maple looked around. At some point I heard footsteps and saw someone climb up the tree. I held my breath and was as still as I could be. The person that climbed up the tree spoke first.
"I'm here to help you. That's all I was trying to do this whole time. Please, come with me and you'll be safe." It was a vaguely familiar voice...
"No. I can never believe you again. You lied to all of us." Maple said. She pushed him out of the tree and he landed with a quiet thud.
