“So I can’t wait to see your room,” I say changing the subject.

“I’m sure we’ll be spending some time in there,” he says. I think about that for a minute. Then I hit him. What kind of person makes a sexual joke near their mom? I guess him. I roll my eyes at him and he smirks.

”You’re awful,” I tell him laughing.

“And you love it,” he says flicking my nose. I could see Narcissa trying to watch us. I nudge him and tell him to knock it off. I needed to make a good impression. I was going to make a good impression. No matter what.

We made it to the Malfoy Manor and Draco helped me out of the car. Narcissa was glaring at me as Draco got our bags and handed them to a house elf.

“So Cami how do you do in school?” Narcissa asked coldly.

“It’s Kayla,” Draco corrects.

“That’s what I said,” Narcissa says looking at me.

“Oh I do fine, I guess,” I say. Narcissa takes us to Lucius’s study. Narcissa sits in a chair beside her husband and Draco and I sit behind the desk.

“Hello Kara, Ryan is it?” Lucius asks me. Kara Ryan? Wow they was terrible at names. Unless they were doing it purposely which seemed very likely.

“Kayla Rain,” Draco corrects and I smile at him.

“Terribly sorry,” Lucius says, not sounding sorry at all.

“How old are you?” Narcissa asks.

 “I’ll be sixteen soon.”

“What do your parents do?” Mr. Malfoy asks. I knew he didn’t care what muggles did but I assumed Draco had talked to him.

“They aren’t around,” I answered.

“What happened?” Mrs. Malfoy asks as she toyed with a strand of her white blonde hair. She wasn’t even pretending to be interested.

“They died in a fire when I was six.”

“That must have been tough,” Lucius says with no real sympathy. The Malfoys questioned me but they never even attempted to look interested. Draco finally was able to pull me away and showed me to my room. His parents put me in a room far away from his. Narcissa and Lucius walked by the door of my room.

“I don’t like our Draco touching that filth,” I heard Narcissa complain.

“Cissy, this is just a phase. Draco will realize he doesn’t love this girl and he’ll dump her,” Lucius tells his wife.

“What was he thinking? A mudblood? And to top it off she’s American,” Narcissa wails. It wasn’t fair. I was being judged on my blood status and my origin.

Dinner was not fun. Lucius and Narcissa almost entirely ignored me. The meal was silent and Draco didn’t even try to change his parents mind. It was the most quietly agonizing dinner ever. Draco didn’t even try to defend me when Narcissa mumbled that I was not fit to eat with them. We walked back to my room together after dinner.

“Don’t listen to them. I do love,” Draco says firmly.

“I know, but if they don’t like me you might realize I’m a filthy mudblood,” I say as I sit down on the bed. Draco sits down next to me and grabs my hand.
