(Author’s Note: There’s some cursing in this chapter)
Melody P.O.V “Mel, let me explain!” He shouted as I heard him running after me. “Explan what?! Just going to kiss around with your ex, cause that’s what it seemed like?!” I shouted back. “I didn’t kiss her back, and I couldn’t just push her away! You know I can’t hurt girls!” He said, getting calmer. “Well, you hurt me! So you can!” I kept on shouting. “You know what I mean by hurting!” He shouted back. “Ross, just stop. Please.” Suddenly sadness seemed to take over instead of anger. “Mel, you know I only love you. You know Mackenzie only told you lies. You know that.” He said with a sad look on his face.
“Don’t you remember what I told you before? She opened up my eyes, Ross!” I said angrily as I started to feel the tears building up. He walked over to me and wanted to wrap me into a hug, but I kept on backing off. “M-Maybe we should take a break.” I whispered, trembling from top to toe. “You know I can’t do that. I need you.” He whispered, and I saw his eyes getting watery too. “Maybe it’s better… So you can figure out with who you want to be.” I whispered. “I don’t want her! I told you I didn’t kiss her back! I want you and only you!” He cried out.
“Just a short break. Please.” I said, looking down. He sighed and punched his fist against the wall, making me back off even more. “I can’t ever do anything right, goddamnit!” I knew that when Ross got really mad, sometimes he burst out in tears. I started to walk away. “Mel, don’t do this to me, please.” I heard him pleading. For a slight moment, I wanted to turn around and wrap him into my arms, but knew it wasn’t the right moment. I was angry at him, no time for hugs.
I walked over to Ellington’s class and knocked on the door. “Hello misses Warwalls, can I take Ellington with me for a moment?” I asked shyly. When Ellington saw me, his jaw dropped and a worried look washed over his face, I probably looked terrible. “Sure thing.” She replied simply and Ellington walked over to me, wrapping me into his arms as we stood in the hallway. “What happened?” He whispered as we hugged. “I saw Ross kissing with Mackenzie and he kept on telling me how he didn’t mean to do it… So I thought maybe a break would be better… But somehow I know he didn’t mean to do it, but on the other side, I don’t know if I can trust him, it’s… it’s really complicated.” I hid my face in his chest as I felt the tears coming back.
“Lately, things between Ross and you haven’t been the same, are they?” I shook my head. “I want everything back the way it was…” Ellington took me to the girls bathroom. “Maybe it’s better if I wait outside.” He said. I nodded lightly and got in. I tried to make myself look like nothing had happened, which wasn’t totally successful, but I tried. I came out of the bathroom, and walked over to Ellington, who was sitting on a bench. “And now?” I asked. “Do you want to go home? Cause I guess you really want to think about all of this.” He said. I nodded. “I’ll go and tell you’re going home. Go home and relax, think about it, maybe. Call me or Rydel if you need anything.” He quickly pulled me into a hug and then walked off. I grabbed my books, my coat and then got home.
When I was home, Ross was bombing me with text messages, saying all the things over and over again. I used to trust Ross with all my heart, but after that, he lost a lot of it. That might’ve been the reason I doubted our relationship right now. I don’t trust people easily, and if I trust them, and they break it… I can’t really handle that. It’s a girl problem, I guess. I tried to distract myself from Ross’ pleading face in my mind, but nothing seemed to work. I was angry at him, then why did his face appear in my mind all the time?!
I grabbed my phone and clicked Ross’ name. “Mel?” “Hey…” “I get the fact that you’re mad at me…” “You better do.” I shrugged. “Please, just… Forget it? Or something? I really need you, and I don’t need Mackenzie at all! I promise.” Ross had never broken a promise before. Like literally none. “Come over to mine when you’re done with school.” I simply said and then hung up.
