What is me without you?
What is fire without air to breathe?
Like a friend who was always meant to be,
you smile and I am better.
I need not say a word and understanding comes forth.
A crush does not encompass this, but love seems the wrong term.
What's this piercing, stinging feeling
my stomach gurgles, and I am warm.
A catching glance reveals everything,
but the wrong touch and heads will turn.
It seems we cannot get this right, hovering on a cusp
of incandescence.
What is me without you?
What is a bird without a cage.
Like the first silence of a morning,
everything is calm.
No words have yet been spoken and understanding unfurls.
Away, I feel relief from you. I breathe without fear of flames.
I know this faint and fearful pain,
my heart aches, and yet I'm free.
I do not trust a fleeting glance,
when truths seem buried deep.
Feelings once kept me lingering, now I fly without fear
of consequence.
What is me without you?
What is love without loss.
