To a very special friend who has had a really long year.

Don't worry I am still here.

The past still taints our present, even that which we cannot see,

but pain seems to fade with time, like we forget the pain to make room for more.

But do not inflict yourself, the pain does not come from you,

you are merely the house in which it resides.

And why should that house be anything but warm and kind

as you are. To a world that is anything but.

My friend, your pain does not live only within yourself

it lives within me too.

It has dug it's roots into my heart and will live there far after you and I do.

So in winter we don't have to blue,

let the blue paint the world outside,

while we keep warm within our home.

And the snow will fall and the sky will darken,

but if we stay warm enough we will see the grass return

even if it takes a little time.

Let me help to hold your pain as you hold mine too,

embraced in souls light enough to survive it.
