"I Promise" Levi Ackerman x Reader

Chapter Thirteen

"If all else fails, you must live, do anything to come back alive, even if it costs your sisters life" I feel my heart sink to my stomach as Erwin whispers these words to my brother just slightly too loud.

I'm waiting for my brother to nod but instead he just pulls away from Erwin with an expressionless face.

"I will keep the bloodline alive, don't worry brother" Myles says and grabs my arm while dragging me out of the room.

We get to the front door and a cloak is wrapped around my shoulders while my hood pulled over my eyes. My brother then grabs my hand and starts running through the snow.

"What's happening M-Myles?" My voice cracks again as I squeak out my question. My brother just turns to me with tears in his eyes.

"Do you remember where we hid from the guards before Erwin took us in?!" My brother yells at me and I shrink away in fright, he's never raised his voice at me before.

Myles takes one look at my expression and sighs before pulling me into a hug.

"I'm sorry, I don't want to be remembered as the bad guy" He mumbles into my hood and I freeze.

"What are you t-talking about?..." My voice quavers but not because of my stutter, I can feel my eyes start to tear up as I think about what he meant.

"Shhhh, (f/n), Don't cry, please don't cry" I can hear something different in his voice and I push him away slightly to look at his face.

'My brother that was never afraid... he's crying...' I shoot my hand up to my mouth as I suppress a sob. My brother leans his forehead on mine and sighs with a slight hiccup.

"Go there" I hear him say and I look up at him again, in shock that he's asking me to leave him.

"What about you? What about Erwin? What about your promise to Erwin?" My mind starts racing as I try to think of anything to persuade my brother to stay by my side or escape without me.

"I promised to keep the bloodline running, and I will." He says to me kindly while resting his hand on my small cheek. I hear rustling coming from behind my brother and I attempt to look past him but Myles simply pulls me into a large hug.

"Run, go there before they find us." My brother shoves me out of his arms and I propel forwards, I spin around just in time to hear my brother mumble a few words and pull out a sword.

Myles makes eye contact with me and I just stare at his glowing blue eyes as shining silver tears run down his cheeks. My twin brother smiles at me.

He didn't smile happily.

He smiled a goodbye.

"I don't want to be remembered as a monster, please, run away from me" My brother sobs out before turning around to meet a crowd of large men dressed in pure darkness.

Then everything slows down.

I watch as my brother charges at them.

I watch as he slays them down, one by one.

I watch as one comes up behind my brother and stabs his shoulder.

I watch.

I watch as two men come up on either side of my brother and hold his arms out.

I watch as both men slice off his limbs.

I watch.

I watch as my brother screams in pain.

I watch.

I watch as my brother falls to the ground in a puddle of blood.

I watch.

I watch as my brother turns his eyes towards mine.

I watch.

I watch as my brother inhales his last breath and forms one last word.

"Please"

I run.

I run away from my dead brother.

I run away as a part of me is destroyed.

I run away and hide.

I'm sorry.

~Flashback Stops (not ends)~

"Oi... brat, you're crying" Levi's monotone voice snaps me out of my thoughts and I look up at him. Levi tch's and walks up to me.

Levi leans over and moves his napkin up to my eyes, he then proceeds to wipe my cheeks and I find myself absentmindedly leaning my face onto his napkin. Levi raises his eyebrows before taking his hand away from my face and walking back to where he stood before.

"So you had a thing for Erwin Smith" Hanji says excitedly and I blush as I nod my head. Hanji squeals and is about to ask me more when Instructor Keith opens the door and lets himself in.

I look down at my hands instead of meeting the Instructors fierce gaze.

"Cadet (f/n) (l/n), your training at this camp has been hereby ceased" Instructor Keith says and I freeze, unable to fully comprehend the situation. I look up at him and what I see in his eyes scares me.

I push myself out of my chair and force myself to salute to Keith as I grit my teeth in anger.

"Pardon me sir, but I'm not s-sure I understand." Me teeth start to hurt from the force I'm inflicting upon them.

"You are to leave this camp by midnight" Instructor Keith says calmly and my mouth opens in shock.

"Sir I have nowhere to stay, what will I do?" I find myself growing more in a panic by the second.

"Don't you live with Erwin Smith, Cadet?" Keith asks bluntly and I inhale sharply.

"N-no sir, I ran away" I'm sounding much more calm then I'm feeling and Keith just raises and eyebrow to my answer and so does Levi, while Hanji is leaning forward in excitement.

I feel my cheeks start to turn red as Keith is silent for a few seconds.

"You will become my assistant in the office and on the battlefield" I spin around in shock as Levi states this with his usual stoic demeanor. I then spin back to Keith to see his reaction but he didn't look surprised in the least.

"The reason Captain Levi and Squad Leader Hanji visited was because of you." Keith says and my mouth opens in shock while I spin around to look at Hanji standing next to the short man.

"So you'll be coming to live in HQ with us!" Hanji screams ecstatically and grabs my hand, pulling me out the door before I can object. Levi follows casually behind us.

Hanji practically throws me into a carriage and jumps in after me, Levi following suit.

'What on earth is going on?' I hear the voice say and I shrug, not sure how to answer. 'Also, since when did you have a thing for Erwin? We told MM that you were into younger guys!'

I may have tried to forget that fact...
