I see that we are in a forest the sun still shining through the trees, it was beautiful. "Stay there." He says to me as he gets out the car, before I know it he's at my passenger door opening it. "Thank you. Such a gentleman." I say.
"Well, I try." He says. 'Try' I mimicked inside my head. He doesn't even have to try with me, I was already there when I first laid eyes on him.
"You okay?" He stares at me quizzically.
"Oh right. Sorry." He holds his hand out for me and I jump down.
"Am I just too fascinating?"
"Huh?" I ask him confused.
"You zoned out staring at me." He smirks.
"Oh." I said. "Mmm, maybe." I say again.
"You're going to be a piece of work aren't you?"
"Aye!" I slap him on the shoulder. "All I ever do is work, so if I am work itself, how are you surprised?" I say, staring up at him.
"I know you work very hard. I'm not blind." He says.
"Maybe, but you might be a bit stupid."
"Hey!!" He says "not nice."
"I meant you might be getting yourself into something, you don't know... " I stop myself.
"I don't know what mystery girl?"
"Suppose mystery girl is going to stick then, because I'm not telling you just yet, for all I know," I point towards the trees. "You could lure me into that forest over there and let me get eaten alive."
"Thought you said I was a gentlemen." He mumbles.
"Well, you have been so far. Let's walk! I want to go explore." I say, my excitement overtaking my actions, I sounded like a child.
"Alright mystery girl, off you go, I'm right behind you." He says, reaching over grabbing a bag out of his ute.
I run towards the forest, feeling the wind go through me and hearing it whistle through the trees. "I love it here. I feel so, relaxed." I nearly shout, twirling around, almost forgetting I'm here with coffee shop boy showing him a new side to me he hasn't seen.
He smiles at me from the distance and I can see him laughing at the sight of me. "Hey! Slow down pretty girl, I'm not as fit as I may look."
"Bull crap!!" I say, "Come catch me!" I run towards the trees that engulf my inner child.
I just felt so free out here, I haven't felt like that in a longtime, the last time I had one of these moments, I would've been with my father. My smile dropped as I remembered him, back when he seemed so innocent, before he broke his only daughter's heart. "You ok?" Tom finally says catching up to me. "Bloody hell you run fast."
"Eh, I run all the time. Clears my head."
"Okay, are you sure everything is..."
I cut him off. "Yep! Now please tell me you brought food."
"Nah, I was just going to let you starve." His sarcasm echoes through the Forrest. "Ha, funny."
"You seriously see right through me." He says- "I tried to sound serious."
"I'm not gullible," I trail off.
"Hey look!" He points the other way.
"What is ...."
"Gotcha!" He says.
"As I said, that was... I am not gullible, moment of weakness."
He laughs as he spreads out a blanket and sets it underneath the tree. He pulls out cheese and crackers, hands me a coke and gets himself one too. I crack open my drink and here the bubbles rise up. "So, coffee shop boy, how long have you been working for?"
"About a year and a half maybe. It's a good job, you meet different people everyday."
"Yeah? Like who?"
"Well, a few weeks ago, there was this girl that came in, she was wearing sweatpants and a Tshirt her hair tied up in a messy bun. The way she presented herself was quite striking, she was herself and it seemed like she was a local. I hadn't ever noticed her before which I thought was weird, coz how could I miss someone as beautiful as her. Her blonde hair and those green eyes, but it was her smile that was so attractive and very contagious. She was so friendly and everything about her made me want more. She had strength in the way she carried herself. Like no one else would...." he trails off and I interrupt him. "What was her name!" I say excitedly. This girl sounded awesome, but I was quite jealous of the way he seemed to like her. Maybe I was going to get hurt. Right now. I shivered at the thought.
"Kate." He says looking at me. My mouth drops open. "Me?" I ask, scared if he says no.
"Nah, just some chick that..."
I interrupt him. "Me."
"Yes mystery girl, you."
"Can I ask you something?" I say out of the blue as I sip my coke.
"Mm." He says. "What is it?"
"Uhhh, why do you call me mystery girl? Don't get me wrong, I like it. But I'm so confused as to why."
"Because, you are mysterious in so many ways, different, for example, you said it yourself, there's something you aren't telling me, but that isn't the start of it, your confidence, your kindness, your wonderful ability to make me smile every time you enter that damn door... there's just so much about you that is for me to want to know."
"Well, thank you for starters, but let me say one thing about you, you are the one who makes me feel so much happiness, all at once, as soon as you stare in my direction."
"Kate, this is our first date, I don't want to move to fast, but I think I'm falling for you, I can't get you out of my head."
"Right back at you, Tom. Look at the sunset. Isn't it pretty?"
"Yeah, but I have someone sitting next to me that's a lot more prettier than the sunset." He says, his voice filtrating my ears. I knew it. I was falling for him too.
We ate and watched the sun go down. I started to freeze. I was shivering. "Are you cold?" Tom asked me politely. "A bit, but I'll be okay."
"Agh, whatever, I have this jacket over here that I'm not using so I'll just place it here for you to stare at." He pats it next to me. I roll my eyes. I grab the jacket and chuck it on, I can smell his musk scent on it, making me feel attracted to him even more. "Hah, that's what I thought." He said. "Oh shut up Tom." I laugh.
He smiles at me and I gaze into his glassy blue eyes, I feel lost in them. I was feeling quite tired and my eyelids fluttering open and closed. "Right, let's take you home mystery girl."
"What gave me away?"
"I can see it in your eyes Kate."
"OH damn I didn't want to ruin the moment."
"Oh trust me, you didn't ruin it at all."
