Tom's P.O.V
I walk into work feeling overwhelmed as soon as I see the flow of customers rushing in, boy do I love Saturday mornings. "Tom! Hurry up! I'm dying over here!" I hear Eddie shout, but don't see where the voice came from until I turn behind me after grabbing my apron and chucking it on myself, frantically tying the knot. He was crouching down looking for something. "You ok?"
"Can't find the damn $5 note that flew out of my hands and it's the only one we have left and this poor woman here," he points her direction. She smiles patiently waiting. I scan the floor around me and spot it right away,"here it is!!" I hand her back the note and she thanks us gratefully. I clap Eddie on the back, "What would you do without me."
"I don't know man, thanks heaps." Eddie is like my best friend, even though I'm 22 and he's 30 something. We always have each other, and work is never a bore either. I smile to myself thinking bout the time I was on trial and I spilt coffee on myself and he was the one who told them to hire me anyway, I owe that guy a lot.
My thoughts are distracted from my mind when a man comes walking in. He's fairly tall, and is holding hands with a very young looking woman for his age, but I try not to judge. "Can I help you?" I say to him.
"Yeah, my partner and I are in town and are actually wondering if this place is as good as they say." He says, his eyes almost challenging me but in a joking way. "Well we try, but don't tell anyone I said this, you can't really get any better than the coffee shop on the corner." I say.
"Alright then, I'll get a large flat white extra shot and a cappuccino please, to have here."
"No worries."
I hand the guy his coffee order, when I look to the left of me and see Kate, with her hands on her hips, the most unimpressed look displayed on her face. "What do you think you're doing?" She sternly says to me.
"I was just..." she cuts me off.
"How dare you?? You went behind my back and decided to meet my father and his stupid trophie girlfriend without asking me first?? She throws her hands up in the air.
"I didn't, wait a minute. That's??? YOUR FATHER!!?" I point in his direction.
She looks at me and rolls her eyes. "Oh don't act like you don't know?!"
"Okay," I say a little annoyed now. "I'm just gonna go get back to my job, which I was only doing, before you assumed that I did whatever you thought this was, which in my eyes, was bringing your father and his partner coffee, whom I didn't know was your dad, till now."
I walk away coldly. God, why was she so harsh and quick to judge?? What the hell
did I do. She's got a troubled past, I know that but I didn't ask for this.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Kate's POV
After my outburst, I had composed myself. I can't believe I just did that. I think I've seriously blown my chances with the most amazing guy I've met. I knew I had to fix this before he would leave me. But how? He wouldn't speak to me would he? And even if he did, I've planted a land mine between us. "Ahh shit." I breathe. And race out the door without speaking to my father.
