Mitch slowly opened his eyes and immediately shut them again. It was the last day he could stay at the hotel and he was dreading the fact he had to come back to reality.

He rolled out of bed and curled up into a little ball on the floor. He glanced at his phone and saw the usual missed calls and messages from Scott.

It's almost been a week since Mitch has left and he has defiantly felt his heart aching from the lack of his husband.

His phone was almost dead from the amount of times Scott has tried to call him, but he plugged in the device and checked his messages.

Scott: Mitch we need to talk, something came up I'm not ok...

Mitch felt a bit confused and laid down before he responded. He was still pissed at him for everything, but couldn't help but feel guilty for his mistakes me made too; even if they weren't as severe as what Scott has done.

Scott: Meet me at 560 waters street at the coffee shop in two hours. I'm leaving to go into Arlington, I'll explain there.

Mitch felt his stomach turn and his bottom lip tremble. The text messages were sent an hour and a half ago.

He debated on meeting him there or just staying in his car. He decided to go because Scott seemed very serious. Mitch quickly threw on different clothing and brushed his teeth.

He raced out the door and attempted to find the coffee shop Scott was talking about.

~

Scott had his head down on the table with a death grip on his coffee cup. He looked up when he heard the door slam shut and saw his husband walking towards him.

Scott put his head down again and felt the table shake as Mitch sat down across from him. It was silent for s moment until Mitch spoke up, "Why are you going back into Arlington?"

"Because." Scott let out a quiet sob, "You know how my dad just got sent back overseas?"

Mitch's eyes widened as his hand covered his mouth. "No, Rick didn't... pass did he?"

Scott felt a new wave of tears spill out of his eyes, "I-I told him he was too old to go back into combat! N-Now my dad is dead."

Mitch felt tears fall down his face as he sat down next to Scott and hug him, "I'm s-so sorry I wasn't here for you when you found out."

This moment made Mitch realize that he was being really damn selfish. There were more important things in other people's lives than he and Scott's marriage problems.

"Let's start driving now, your mom is probably devastated." Mitch whispered to Scott as he stood up.

"What about our, you know. Disagreement." Scott asked as he wiped his eyes.

"This is way more important than that right now. You need me and it's my job to be here for you in these moments, we will talk more when everything settles." Mitch said as he pulled Scott's arm up, "Right now all you need to worry about is yourself and this situation."

~

Mitch was in the drivers seat while Scott was in the passengers seat.

"Can we at least talk about our fight to get it out of the way? I don't want you to be tense while this is happening." Scott said.

Mitch looked over at Scott and pursed his lips, "Honey I really don't want you worrying about anything else."

"P-Please?" Scott begged.

Mitch's heart broke at the sound of Scott's pleading voice. After a few seconds Mitch spoke again, "You talk first then."

Scott let out a sigh of relief, "Do you understand that you are the most important person in my life and I couldn't function without you? I'm completely lost and broken without you by my side and I never want you to leave like that again. I want us to cuddle like we used to, kiss like we used to, and just overall interact like we used to."

Mitch let the corners of his mouth turn up into a small grin, "I want that too, but I don't want you thinking it's okay for you to treat me the way you do."

"I-I won't! This was defiantly a one time thing, it shouldn't have happened at all." Scott sobbed.

Mitch felt his heart shatter as he reached over to hold Scott's hand, "Honey, maybe we can work though this. We can go to marriage counseling, and make rules and limits. We can make this work."

Scott gripped Mitch's hand and kissed the back of it several times, "Fuck I love you so much baby boy!"

Mitch giggled a little and retracted his hand to keep them on the steering wheel, "I love you too."

~

Scott's eyes were closing as he pulled into Connie's drive way. When they parked Mitch gently shook Scott's shoulder, "We are here baby."

Scott slowly opened his eyes and looked around in the darkness, "Mitchy, you could have had me drive some."

"It's fine, let's go in." Mitch said softly as he stepped out of the car.

Scott knocked on his moms door and rocked back and forth while waiting for his mother to answer the door.

"Oh, hello Scott." His mother weakly said as she pulled open the giant oak door.

Scott immediately pulled the small woman in for a hug and closed his eyes, "How are you doing mom?"

Connie's didn't answer his question and just kept crying, "Why don't you two come in?"

They both walked in and saw broken picture frames and glass on the floor. On the table was a letter that was extremely crumpled.

Scott picked up the piece of paper and read it slowly in his head. Mitch came over and rubbed Scott's shoulder.

"Is that the letter saying he passed?" Mitch asked.

Scott squeezed his eyes shut and nodded, he then fell back onto the couch, "Where's the kids, mom?"

Connie sat next to Scott and told him Tina and Jack were in the guest bedroom asleep.

A moment passed of silence until Connie spoke up, "Are we going to do anything, like a f-funeral?"

"We can't bury him, but we can have a service." Scott responded, "I really can't process this right now, can we please talk more in the morning?"

Connie stood up and handed them blankets and pillows, "You two can have my room, I'll sleep on the couch."

Mitch was about to argue but felt Scott pulling him up the stairs. When they laid down on the bed Scott burst out in tears.

"Why am I crying? I didn't even see him that much?" Scott asked Mitch as he weakly got under the covers.

Mitch sighed and wrapped his arms around Scott, "Because he was your dad, honey. He's the one that flew across the world to go to your wedding, he's the one that was always so happy and cheery every time you saw him. You only ever had good memories with him, and it hurts when someone like that is taken out of your life."

Scott wiped his eyes and put a blanket on top of Mitch, "I'm sorry I'm a bad husband, I ruined our special vacation, I almost ruined our marriage."

"Honey, please stop talking. You didn't ruin anything, we will work through the problems we have but for now I just need you to rest." Mitch said softly.

"I love you Mitchy." Scott said, his voice breaking as he said Mitch's name. "I love you too." Mitch responded as he kissed Scott's eyelids closed.
