The Grassi-Hoyings were driving back to California, jamming out to their covers on youtube.
"I can't believe we made a youtube channel where we post videos of us singing." Mitch said while laughing, "And the fact that they are actually doing good is astonishing to me."
"Mommy and daddy are famous?" Jack asked.
Mitch giggled and looked at his son, "No baby, we aren't."
"We just sing for fun." Scott said.
Jack crossed his arms and sat back in his chair, "I want a famous mommy and daddy."
Scott chuckled and put his hand on Mitch's thigh, "Maybe someday your mothers amazing voice will get us somewhere."
Mitch placed his hand on top of his husbands and interlocked their fingers, "I love you, you know that right?"
~
"Hey babe, can I talk to you about something?" Scott asked. Mitch nodded and put his phone down to give Scott his full attention.
"So I've been seeing a bunch of adds for a singing competition in Los Angeles." Scott said warily, "And I wanted to hear your thoughts about it."
Mitch looked at the computer screen Scott was holding with all the information and grinned a little bit at the idea, "That's insane honey."
"I know but it's not far away from where we live now, and it won't even hurt us if we try out." Scott persisted, "We could call the group and see if they wanted to meet up here to try out?"
Mitch looked into Scott's begging eyes, "I mean- I'm not paying for their plane ticket."
Scott chuckled and put an arm around his husband, "Just text them and see what they think."
~
"Kevin has a wedding the weekend of the auditions, Avi has a Jewish holiday, and Kirstin is going to Mexico with Jermey." Mitch said, his voice laced with sadness.
Scott frowned and looked down at his computer. He thought for a minute before meeting eyes with his lover, "Maybe we can just try?"
Mitch rolled his eyes, "Babe, I know this is your dream, but think about how unrealistic the chances of us winning are."
"But there's no fee to audition, and it's only an hour away." Scott said hopefully.
"We would need instruments, we can't do an a capella band with two people."
"We can both play the piano, you can make beats on the computer!" Scott said with a smile, "We can totally do this!"
Mitch shook his head slowly, trying to think of a negative, but failing once he looked at Scott's begging eyes, "Scottie, you know I can't say no when you look at me like that."
Scott stuck out his bottom lip and gave him puppy dog eyes. Mitch giggled and kissed his lips, "Okay, but you bette make a fine dinner tonight."
~
Mitch and Scott were sitting in their bedroom brainstorming for songs to sing for their audition.
"None of these songs are working out for us." Scott said with a frustrated tone.
After a few seconds of thinking Mitch spoke up, "How about we write our own song? We can make it short enough for the audition, and it will both mean a lot to us."
Scott smiled at the idea and kissed his husband behind his ear, "I love that idea."
Mitch blushed and turned to a new sheet of paper, "What should it be about?"
"Maybe about how we met each other and our future together." Scott said while placing a hand on Mitch's thigh.
Mitch wrote down the word 'future' on his notepad and looked up at Scott's blue eyes, "We started off as strangers."
"The name could be future strangers?" Scott said with a questioning tone, "Umm, maybe not."
Mitch giggled and wrote the word 'friends' on the sheet of paper, "We were friends before anything."
"Future friends." Scott mumbled, "I like it."
~
The two spent the whole night writing their song, which told the story of their relationship.
Mitch and Scott finally went to sleep at five in the morning, with Mitch sitting in Scott's lap and Scott leaning his back against the couch.
Their two kids came running up to them two hours after they fell asleep, waking Scott up immediately.
"Hey, kids hush up! Mommy is sleeping." Scott whispered.
Tina and Jack looked at each other and giggled a little, "We want cartoons!"
Scott looked down at Mitch curled up in his lap and couldn't bring himself to wake him up, "Go into mommy and daddy's room and watch it there."
The two kids ran off, leaving Scott and Mitch in the living room. Scott wrapped his arms around Mitch's mid section and kissed his shoulder lightly.
Scott looked at the crumpled piece of paper on the ground which held the twos song. He picked it up and read it in his head with a smile on his face.
He put it down and tried to stand up with Mitch in his arms to set him on the couch. Scott gently set him down and tried to walk away to check up on their kids, but Mitch grabbed onto his arm.
"Stay. Please." Mitch asked.
Scott obviously couldn't say no so he climbed next to Mitch on the couch and kissed his forehead, "Sorry for waking you up."
Mitch didn't respond and just put a hand on his husbands chest and threw a leg over him.
