Mitch was pulling the gum out of his hair from the class he was teaching and sighed when he got it out. He looked in the mirror and saw dark circles around his eyes.
He loved his job but sometimes it became a little overwhelming.
"Hey babe, how was work?"
Mitch looked at him and gave him a hug, "Wasn't the greatest day, but it's better now that I get to see you and the kids."
"Awe you're such a great mother and wife." Scott said while putting his brief case away.
"Daddy, I made this for you." Tina said as she handed Mitch a paper with a drawing on it.
It was a drawing of their family. Jack and Tina were in the middle and Scott and Mitch were next to them. In the background was a bright blue sky and a sun in the corner of the paper.
"This is beautiful honey! But I thought the teacher was supposed to hang up the drawing. That was your homework, to draw a picture to decorate the school walls with." Mitch said as he hung the paper on their fridge.
"The teacher said he didn't like it so I had to take it home." Tina said before going into the room to play with her toys.
Mitch sighed and gripped the edge of the table, "Scott? When are we going to have a talk with the school?"

Scott opened the door for his husband and held his hand as they both walked into the school.
They were going to talk to the principal, they were very curious about what they had to say even though they had a pretty good idea.
"Hello." The principal said as he sat down at his desk.
Mitch and Scott sat down across from him and smiled, "You wanted to see us?"
"Ah yes, about that." The principal slid a paper across the desk towards the couple, "Read policy four."
Mitch cleared his throat, "No inappropriate relationships demonstrating or promoting same sex relations. To protect the students safety, we ask that no same sex parents are apart of their child's fundraising, parent volunteers, or apart of the school board or school in any way."
Scot scrunched up his eyebrows, "I can't say that I agree with any of these rules but how does this apply to us?"
The principal cleared his throat, "From my records, we see that you two are in a relationship. Meaning, you can't be apart of any of the schools activities to protect the children's safety."
"We aren't even apart of anything surrounding the school, and how are we a danger to the safety of the children?" Scott argued.
"The other parents have filed complaints saying they don't feel like their child is safe." The principal explained, "The reason this apples to you is because the school your husband works for is connected to this school with fundraising issues. Since we are connected, and he works there, it goes against this policy."
Mitch widened his eyes and say up straighter, "W-What do you want us to do about that?"
"Either you have to take your child out of our schooling system, or find a new job."
