Ricks funeral has been sudden and thrown together, but still very emotional. It had been two weeks since the funeral, and Scott hasn't moved since.
Mitch was sitting next to him, researching marriage counseling while running his fingers through Scott's hair.
"What about this place honey?" Mitch asked as he turned his laptop screen towards Scott. He sniffed and nodded his head in approval.
"Ok when should make the appointment? How about next week?" Mitch asked. Scott weakly nodded and closed his eyes.
Mitch wanted to cut Scott slack since his dad just passed away, but it was getting harder to do since he could feel their marriage problems in the pit of his stomach.
"How about we go do something with the kids today? To cheer you up?" Mitch suggested.
Scott shrugged, "Yeah, the kids need to see us as a happy couple again."
The two kids were in the corner of the living room playing with their toys, "Hey you two, what do you want to do today?" Mitch asked.
Jack sat up and giggled, "Ice cream?"
Scott let out a chuckle and went to get his shoes on, "That's a good idea buddy, let's get ice cream and go to the park."
Tina got her shoes on and so did Mitch, they all walked out the door and got into the car.
"I can drive." Scott said with a smile as he got in the drivers seat. This was the first time in weeks that he had driven.
Mitch smiled and sat in the passengers seat, turning around to make sure everyone was buckled as Scott started to drive.

Scott and Mitch were sitting next to each other on a park bench while their kids were playing. Their hands were intertwined as Scott spoke up, "Do you think we really need counseling?"
Mitch looked at him and squinted his eyes, "I think we do, haven't you been feeling the tension?"
Scott sighed, "Look at us, we are doing really well right now. And we shouldn't pay for therapy, we are already extremely tight on money as it is."
"Our marriage is very important to me, I'm sorry if you're not one hundred percent in on loving me but I think you're worth fighting for." Mitch said as he retracted his hand from Scott's.
"Honey that's not what I'm saying, I just thought that maybe we could work through our problems without someone telling us what to do to be happy." Scott pleaded, "Please don't be mad at me."
"Will you at least try to make this therapy thing work, I already booked an appointment for next Wednesday."
Scott frantically nodded. "Y-Yes of course."
"I'm not trying to be mean either, I just really don't want to be one of those couples that had their life sorted out and everything was great but we fall apart when one challenge comes our way." Mitch said as he reluctantly slid his hand back into Scott's grasp and rested his head on his shoulder.
"I would never let you go that easily, you are worth fighting for." Scott mumbled agains Mitch's head.

Scott and Mitch were sitting in their first marriage counseling session. Scott felt awkward with the whole situation, while Mitch was mentally taking notes.
"I can't tell you what to do but I can give you advice on how to strengthen your marriage. I think we should start off with trust exercises." The counselor, Mrs. Alex, suggested.
"Sounds great!" Mitch said with a smile, looking over at Scott who had his eyelids half closed.
"How about we start with coming clean first, it's importation to knock down any grudges we have against each other and start rebuilding from the bottom up." Mrs. Megan said.
Scott and Mitch both faced each other and said what was bothering them and why they had problems. They had done this before on their own, but it was important to remind them why they needed counseling.
After that exercise Mrs. Megan had them give each other truthful comments, good or bad.
"This will show each other that you two can be real with one another and you can always go to the other person in a time of need." Megan said.
"I love how tiny and cute you are." Scott said with a chuckle, "And I truly believe you are the most beautiful person in the world."
Mitch pressed his lips together to prevent him from smiling too much, "I think you have the most hypnotizing eyes, and you're the perfect size for a really good hug."
Scott chuckled and looked at his sweaty palms before continuing, "I think that sometimes you overreact about small things and try to make a scene on purpose."
Mitch's eyes widened, "I-I think that sometimes you try to make me mad on purpose so that I will leave you, or that you have an excuse to leave me."
"It says here that Mitch has anxiety so it's completely normal for him to doubt himself and other people around him, so please don't be offended by his statement, Scott." Megan said.
Scott nodded and looked up, "Can we do something different now?"
Megan nodded, "Yes of course, let's try connecting the problem to a solution."
~
"You know I don't think you two have a whole lot to worry about for your marriage honestly, but I think it's phenomenal that you are coming in as soon as you suspected a problem." Megan said at the end of their session.
"These marriage counseling sessions aren't just for solving problems within a marriage, they're also for reminding each other on why you fell in love in the first place. Many couples come in weekly just for fun, like dates for many people where they can escape and just be with each other. You two have a very obvious connection and I admire that, I think you two just have met a challenge that comes along in any marriage, it won't take long for you to be back on track."
Mitch's smile got wider at ever word Megan said before thanking her and waving goodbye.
"Did you hear what she said? That makes me so happy!" Mitch exclaimed as he buckled his seat belt.
"I did, and I'm excited that she could see the bond we have is very real." Scott said.
Mitch giggled, "I feel like my whole little world is getting back on track!"
"If you're getting back on track then mine is too, because you are my world." Scott said while raising his eyebrows.
Mitch rolled his eyes and smiled so his dimples showed, "Cheesy Hoying hasn't changed a bit since high school."
