Leaning my head against the window, I looked out and watched the rain drops race down the glass. Together with the wind blowing outside an endless panorama of trees played over and over again as we drove down the road.
Emma and Dani were in the passenger seats up front, while Derek and I sat in the back leaving space between us.
The radio played in the background filling the silence in the room, but still, I could hear Emma and Dani's thoughts as they watch me through the rearview.
"You guys hungry yet?" Dani asked.
"No, not really," I whispered.
"How long until we get to the shipyard?" Derek asked.
"Um, another hour or so?"
Propping myself up on my elbow, I placed my chin in my hands as I opened the window.
Feeling the cold air hit my face sent goosebumps all over my arms and legs, the tip of my nose started to go numb before Emma starts to close it up.
"It's cold, Savannah." She blurted out.
"It's really warm in here, and I need fresh air."
"She's right, we've been driving for 4 hours now. Why not stop here for some air.
"Fine." Hearing the sound of her turn signal clicking, she pulls over on the side of the road.
Parking the car, I opened the door abruptly and got out.
"I can finally feel my legs." I joked as I knew Emma would hear.
"Oh, stop complaining. You've driven this road so many times."
"Yeah, but it doesn't take me 6 hours to get from Beacon Hills to Portland."
"I don't want to crash?"
"We're supernatural beings, Emma. I think we can handle a small little crash?" Dani added.
Walking into the woods, I climbed past the broken down trees and the mold growing around the rotten mushrooms.
"Where are you going?" Derek asked.
"Just walking around..."
Heading straight towards the edge of the cliff, I looked down at the gaping whole separating California and Oregon. The smell of gunshot powder and blood flowed up from the ledge just a few meter below us.
"What's wrong?" Derek asked.
"You don't smell that?" I asked him, looking up at his profile.
"No?"
"Hey, do you think I'd live if I jumped into the river?" Emma asked.
"Yeah, sure. Go ahead, maybe we'll get to Portland a lot faster." Dani said sarcastically, making all of us except Emma chuckled.
"What do you smell?" Derek whispered.
"Gunpowder and blood. It must be like 22 years ago or something."
"You can smell how long blood has been out for?"
"I guess so..." I whispered.
After a while of roaming around and walking up and down the edge of the cliff, I decide to the over and drive us the rest of the way.
1 HOUR LATER
Pulling up to a grungy dark shipyard, I parked the car just outside of the gate and sat inside staring.
"Whoa..."
There were 10 ships docked at the edge of a very long runway, colored and name by either famous names, men, or events. The ships must have been about 10 stories high, 120 feet long by the way some of the workers needed golf carts to get from one end to the other.
