A FEW DAYS LATER
Opening the front door, I threw my keys on the side table before hanging my jacket and baseball cap on the hanger next to me.
The house was still dark as the only light coming in the house was from the moon and the streetlights nearby. Blindly, I threw my shoes in the corner and headed upstairs when I noticed Dani's door was open as the sound of her voice slipped through the cracks.
'Face your opponent by turning sideways slightly, pointing your non-dominant side toward the person you're fighting. If you're right-handed, turn your left hip toward your opponent.'
Pushing the door slightly, I leaned against the door frame as she stood in her room, staring back and forth at the book on her bed.
"Wrap your thumb around the bottom of your fingers, not inside your fist and not on the side of your fingers, as if you were holding a bug you didn't want to escape." She whispered to herself.
"What are you doing?" I asked her.
"Oh, um...I..."
Walking into her room, I grabbed the book at the end of her bed and read the cover.
"Fighting 101? Dani, you already know how to fight."
"I know, but I need to know how to fight without using claws. Like you." She said to me.
"I promise you...a book is not going to help you learn how to feet without your claws. It's just going to make you furious." I said, closing the book and throwing back on the bed.
"Then teach me."
"...Rome wasn't built in a day."
"Then let's start right now." She blurted out.
Rolling my eyes, I turned back around and headed for my room.
"Is that a yes?"
"Go to sleep, Dani. I'll see you in the morning." I said shutting the door behind me.
Derek's POV
Sitting next to the window, I looked down at the clouds and the airplane engine. Chris sat beside me, reading through his journal and other writings he made throughout the time he's been on the plane.
"So, what's the big plan you couldn't tell Savannah when she dropped us off," I asked him.
"Brazil." He blurted out.
"I hope that's code word for we're getting more reinforcements."
"We're heading to Brazil, Derek." He whispered.
"...I don't speak Portuguese?" I blurted out quietly.
"You don't need to."
"Then?" I questioned.
Setting his book down, he took a deep breath before answering me.
"We are going to Brazil to convince a cop to help me. You, on the other hand, are going to be doing your own kind of investigation."
"What is it?"
"You are going to find the hunters that are working for Gerard. They're hiding out in an old shed in the middle of a secluded area." Chris whispered.
"That's it? You couldn't tell Savannah instead?"
"Savannah..." He sighed, leaving off the sentence.
"Savannah, what?" I asked.
"Nothing. Get some sleep, you'll need it." He said, picking his book back up.
