*ADRIAN*

After dinner, Kaden and I headed outside for a walk. I slipped on a pair of worn out Jordan's and stepped out of the front door onto the porch. The porch light was on as it was almost sunset and I could smell the fresh scent of cut grass and flowers, a scent I'd truly miss... when I was gone.

Kaden stepped out behind me. "Ready to go?" He asked me. I nodded in response and we began strolling on the sidewalk. It was then that I remembered something.

"Hey, K?"

"Yeah?" He responded tilting his head a little.

"Let's go... to that place," I told him.

"Now? But Adrian, it's getting late," He said drawing out my name.

"Yes, now. I feel like going and I wanna go right now!" I nagged.

"Oh fine!" He gave in picking up his pace.

I grinned widely. "And another thing," I said running up to him and hopping onto his back, "carry me!" He let out an 'Oof!' at my weight being thrown on his back. "You are so spoiled," he told me, "it's like no matter how old you get, you're still a child on the inside."

I still had a huge grin on my face before saying, "well, seeing as I'm going to die and all, I don't wanna waste my energy on insignificant things like walking when I have you!" I instantly regretted it however when his face paled. "...K? Hey, K? You know I was just kidding right? You don't have to carry me I mean... I'm sorry, I won't play the guilt card on you again."

"No, no, you're fine! I don't mind, really!"

"Kaden..."

"I said, it's fine!"

My smile was long gone, having vanished without a trace. I didn't know leukemia would suck this bad. No really, it sucks. You can imagine all you want what it must feel like, but nothing will come close to the feeling of actually having it. Actually fearing death. Death, it seemed, was around the corner. Lurking in the shadows, waiting for the chance to eat away at my soul. I said nothing more as we--well, Kaden--walked in silence.

Soon, Kaden entered the forest, and it was through there that the place I was keen on going to lie. We arrived at the center of the forest and there it was. A small clearing surrounded by trees and flowers. There was a log in the middle that we had placed there many years ago.

Leaping off of Kaden's back, I walked over to the log and took a seat as Kaden followed and sat beside me. For a moment neither of us said anything before I broke the silence. "Remember when we met?"

Kaden chuckled, "yeah. You were a shrimp. You still kinda are." I punched his shoulder playfully and he erupted in laughter. He caught my glare and grabbed onto his side in an attempt to hold in his laughter. "Sorry, sorry! It's just that... you're so puny! How did you ever make the team?!" He said in between pants, gasping for breath. I punched him again and his body shook as he tried to hold in the laughter threatening to burst from him.

Finally, Kaden quieted down. "That was the day I took you under my wing," he finally said winking at me.

"Or I took you under my wing," I said, frowning.

"No, no. I definitely took you under my wing," he said giving me a look over and shaking his head. "I'm like the mother hen and you're like the baby chick."

I rolled my eyes at his reference to himself as a 'mother hen'. "You're so weird. What was God thinking when he made you?" A wide grin spread across his face at my crude remark. I sat there for a while and found myself deep in thought. Yeah, I remember the day we met. Every bit of it....
