I began taking everything that could help with healing out of the drawer on the first floor of the loft. Peter walked into the room. "What do you want," I asked as I continued sorting everything on the desk.
Peter leaned back with his arms crossed. "Well, it is dusk, and Bree hasn't woken up."
I froze. "Have her wounds healed?"
Peter rolled his eyes. "Derek, it's dusk. You haven't checked on her hours."
I continued looking through everything on the desk. "It wont be any good to check on her if I don't have something to help heal."
Peter walked to the desk and leaned over it. "Derek."
"What?" I stopped and locked my gaze with him.
"She needs you." Peter stepped back. "She's healing. She'll be alright. We just have to make sure that no one will harm her as she heals."
"No one will."

I watched over Bree. Her wounds were healing slower than usual. I gently touched the small bruise on her shoulder. It was not a big as before, but my guilt didn't shrink like her bruise. It was still the giant mass it was before. I turned away to look out the window.
It was my fault the new Alpha pack attacked us. It was my fault I didn't think clearly. It was my fault Bree was alone, vunerable, and unprepared.
"Derek?"
I felt Bree's hand on my shoulder. I closed my eyes and lowered my head. "How do you feel?"
Bree pulled me back to sit on the bed. She sat behind me and wrapped her arms around my neck. "I'm fine. Thank you but don't worry, Derek."
I lowered my eyes. "You know what I've been thinking."
She rested her head on my shoulder. "The incident is all I've been thinking about. I know you think it's your fault, but it's not. Shit happens. It's life."
"I still should have seen it coming." I turned around to face her. "I knew they were after everyone in this pack. They still are." I took a deep breath and shook my head. "They even sent their Alpha after you. That's why your wounds aren't healing. I'm glad you can handle yourself, but if this happens again while you're healing I won't be so lucky."
Bree blinked. "You? You won't be so lucky?"
I nodded. "I need you. I love you."
Bree smiled. "I know. I love you too."
I kissed her hand. "That's why I can't allow you to get hurt like this." I rubbed the back of her hand with my thumb. "We've been together for two years. You litterally proved that you will take a bullet for me, and I will do the same for you. That's why I'll stand guard near your school while you're in class because I'm not letting this happen to you again."
She let out a small laugh as she looked down. "You don't have to."
"I want to."
She looked at me and rubbed my arm. "Well, since you want to be by my side you could cuddle with me."
I paused and let out a small laugh. "You would like that."
She nodded. "Very much."
I grinned. "Anything else?"
"Some ice cream would be nice."
I stood up as I smiled at her. "Would you like to come with me? I wouldn't want Peter to bother you."
She smiled. "I'll get dressed. Are we cuddling when we get back?"
"Of course!"
