~Spring~
My alarm clock went off at five in the morning, I shot up in a cold sweat. I put my hand up to my pounding forehead, last night's nightmares had been so intense I was surprised to see that I haven't ripped my blanket and pillow up. I switched the alarm clock off with my other hand, landing back onto my bed. I don't care if I end up getting dressed in a hurry at six. I need more sleep if I'm gonna be training later. I couldn't sleep though...the adrenaline from the dream was keeping me awake. The moon was staring down at me, I hadn't looked at it this long since my first 'proper' morning here. It's now late April and it's my second month here, the snow has started to melt, it's still cold-ish, you can tell winter has been and is slowly trying to leave. Winter is my favourite season and I like to bask in the ending of it, like a season finale of a series of episodes you love. So I took an hour of getting ready out of my schedule and replaced it with sitting on the windowsill, staring at the moon, once again.
I suited up when my second alarm went off, saying I had to get ready now or Logan would be mad, and trust me, he has been getting a lot of chances to be mad at me already because I keep on stealing his beers every now and then. Sometimes he doesn't even bother with telling me off about it, I don't even want to know why. I might be a student here, but no one can take my habits away from me. Within ten minutes I got down to the danger room to find that I was early, Logan still wasn't down here. I had managed to get onto punching the punching bag without gloves, I guess I was toughening up a bit more. I started punching the bag with my leather gloves on, I didn't care, the leather felt nice on my skin. "Up early for once?" Logan was standing in the doorway, he was suited up, and this surprised me. He usually just trains me when he is in his 'normal' clothes. "Uh huh. What's with the suit?" I asked pointing at his outfit. "Xavier hooked up to cerebro this morning, he found a mutant in South Virginia." Logan looked down at the floor as he said these words. "So..." I goated him on. "So, Xavier thinks you're ready for a mission, this mutant is kind of...special." He said the word like it was code for poison. "How?" I said crossing my arms. "She's quite young...around your age...and she can't control her powers...at all." I didn't know what he was getting at here. "Yeah, that information helps me a lot Shit-face." I said his nick name bitterly, giving the punching bag a roundhouse kick before I made my way towards him.
"Explain...and I mean explain, don't just tell me some useless crap, okay?" I snarled at him. He didn't seem threatened by me. "Fine, she has electrical powers, she gave her sister an electric shock and didn't realise she had put her into a coma until it was too late. She's already drained all the power from her neighbourhood." Logan was straight with me, I can say it was better than the previous answer he gave me, but I can't say it was a good answer. "How does this make me useful?" I questioned him further. "She's your age, from your state and...well, she's a girl. Doesn't matter, she's a mutant all the same and we have to go offer her a place at the school." He answered with his dumb sounding kind of voice. "Yeah, I'll tag along." I said matter of factly as I rubbed my towel behind my neck. "Really?" He scoffed sarcastically. "Yeah...I think I have been stuck here long enough." I concluded, making my way to the jet.
Okay, I changed my mind. I don't like heights, or the turbulence or anything to do with that god-damn jet. The others that decided to come with us were: Storm, Jean, Scott, Pyro, Bobby, Rogue, Logan and me. My heart beat quickens as I grip the leather arm rest, Logan chuckles at me before the speed picks up on the jet and then he does the same by unleashing his claws. I'm not even in the mood to laugh at him for once, which surprises me, but at the speed we are going, I cannot think about anything else apart from spiralling downwards towards the cold earth, what a nice un-creepy death. Sarcasm.
When we landed I kinda considered it being worth the trip on the jet. But changed my mind as soon as the nausea set in. I shifted into a wolf and padded off as fast as I could towards the forest. I hacked up a lot of vomit, when I finished gagging on my own food I made my way back to the jet. Wiping away the excess on my sleeve. "You ok, Kid?" Logan asked me as I shoved past him. "I'm fine..." I snapped a bit too aggressively. He gripped my bicep and searched my eyes for any sign of distress and when he finally seemed that I wasn't scared or any of that mumbo jumbo he let go of me. I shrugged him off and walked towards Storm, Jean and Scott. "So...what now?" I asked impatiently. "Well, the last time anyone saw her was when she ran off into the woods, The Professor said the military had picked up surges of electric energy coming from the edge of Morgantown, near Cooper 's rock." Scott pointed towards a dirt path that led off to a bunch of signs pointing to lots of different places. I padded up to the sign in wolf form and searched for the sign that said 'Cooper's rock' on it. I found it and followed the direction it gave me. To find a girl leaning over a railing.
Her back was turned towards me and it sounded like she was sobbing lightly. She heard my paw stand on a twig, causing it to snap and turned around to find me, the lone wolf. She looked me straight in the eyes, fear was all I could find riddled throughout her complexion. "Please don't hurt me." She whispered. I shifted into human form and I stood up straight, proving that I meant no harm to her. I raised my hands up in a calming gesture. "Look, I'm not gonna hurt you...just..." oh, shoot, I had no idea how to say this. "Who are you?" she asked, well then, make things easier for me. "My name is Hazel, I'm a mutant...like you." She bolted. Like literally. A bolt of electricity was shot at my chest and I was sent flying back into a tree. "Hazel!" I heard Logan bark, by the time I opened my eyes my vision was blurry and Logan was kneeling beside me. I shook of the weightlessness I was feeling "I'm fine." I growled. I changed back into a wolf and chased after the girl.
"I'm not gonna hurt you!!" I shouted down the path she had supposedly ran down. My shoulder seared with pain, "Argh. What the..." I looked down at my shoulder to see blood pouring out of an invisible wound to me. I shifted back into a wolf to get a better look at the wound and there it was, a lightning bolt shaped gash that was bleeding out. I shifted back and tried to walk it off "I wonder where- "another blot of electricity was shot at me from the top of a boulder, I looked up to see the mystery girl standing on top of it. "Just leave me alone! I want to control it!" she screamed at me. "We can help you!" I shouted back at her. "I can hurt people, you're bleeding, and I could kill somebody...I hurt my sister... I don't want to do that to anyone else." She started to sob. My brow creased in sympathy, this girl had suffered a whole lot. "That's exactly why you need to learn how to control it...trust me I didn't want to go to the school either when I first started out a couple months ago...but trust me, you get to feel as normal as possible when you are there." I told, her red rimmed eyes softened at the sound of me describing my home for the past couple of months. "Now...are you gonna come down here or make me come up there?"
I shuffled back to the jet with Eloise, she's a good kid, she's hardly even started her life yet, she's about the same age as Kitten is well. I don't know what Logan was saying when he said that she was 'around' the same age as me, she's about nine years younger. "You got her." Scott said breathlessly as we both made it back to the jet. "Uh hm." I hummed in approval. "Are you two okay?" Logan marched out of the jet and towards the two of us. He had a stern look in his eyes. "Hazel has a-" I pinched her arm. "We're fine." I barged in, I didn't want these guys to think I was weak. Besides, it's gonna heal up in a bit anyway, right? We got into the jet and all strapped in, Pyro started up a conversation with Eloise. I gripped the arm rests, I breathed in deeply through the nose and out through the mouth. "Good job kid." Logan slapped my shoulder, the one that was injured. I yelped out in pain, my fang like teeth quivered, it was like that morning Logan threw coffee on my face all over again. "Wow, you okay?" Logan asked me. "I'm...fine." I stated bitterly. The engine of the jet started back up and we were on our way back to the school.
I rushed back into my room before Logan could say anything about my shoulder. I stripped down to my underwear and took a close look at my wound. It was a nine-inch gash and it had begun to scab a little but that doesn't mean it's not gonna leave a scar. I got changed into my black T-shirt with the school emblem on it and my grey sweatpants, I left my feet bare. I decided this occasion called for a beer, I padded down the stairs and then took a deep breath through my nose. The kids are in the living room watching another game probably and there is no sign of anyone else downstairs. I made it down the last couple of steps, nobody knew I was down here, perfect. I tip toed into the kitchen and opened up the fridge. There was one beer left, awesome. I took it out of the fridge carefully. "So you're the beer thief." A voice said from the doorway. "GAH!" I almost dropped the beer in surprise. I swivelled around to see Logan just standing there, he wasn't mad that he had found out that I was the one who had been stealing his beers over the past couple of months. "I know you hurt yourself out there, Hazel." He said my name differently then he usually does. Is he concerned about me? "Let me have a look at it." I stepped back away from him but he just took two steps forward. I wasn't gonna be able to escape.
