Dinner time was mediocre at best is well, which didn't surprise me. It was slightly darker in the kitchen since one of the bulbs blew but nobody cared. We ate in near silence. Logan kept glancing at me and i kept blushing as he did so. When dinner was over Kurt bamfed me outside the mansion, in the garden. "What happened with you and Logan?" he immediately asked whilst i was coughing, inhaling the sulphur by accident. "What are you talking about?" I asked him curiously. Faking innocence is my thing apparently, according to my mom. "Well, Logan kept glancing at you weird and you kept on blushing even though nothing was happening..." Kurt began to list off, causing me to blush furiously at the situation I had put myself in. "He tried to kiss me okay!" I shouted, awaking all the birds in the garden. "He tried to kiss you?" Kurt blanked. A flicker of jealousy appeared in his eyes before it extinguished. "Kurt..." I gripped his arm.
"yeah Fraulein?" he asked. "Did you have a crush on me?" I asked, straight to the point. Kurt blushed purple, I think he short circuited or something. "M-M-Maybe..." He stuttered continually. "Kurt...it's okay." I sighed. "It...it is?" he questioned. "I mean, I knew when Alexa kissed you, but you knew it wasn't me because I kissed you..." I concluded. "yeah...I did vant to kiss you Fraulein but...it just vasn't like you." He finished sadly. "Kurt, my mutation, it makes me like a wolf in so many ways...and that includes me being able to imprint on my soulmate." I confessed. "vhat? Your soulmate?!" He exclaimed. "This is great!" He forgot his sadness at getting rejected by me and gripped my hands in such a friendly way. "Have you met them?!" he asked immediately. "um...yes..." I mumbled, blushing. "Huh?" Kurt wasn't expecting that. "Who is it?" he questioned non-stop. I pulled him closer to whisper in his ear. Realisation and dread fell onto his face as I told him who it was. "VHAT?!?!?" HE screeched, waking up the whole of Westchester.
The next morning, I rolled out of bed. My hair had deflated slightly, thank god. I wouldn't be able to sleep with that shit surrounding my face. It was still extremely frizzy. Embarassingly, i walked up to Jean and Scott's bedroom door. "Who is it?" a cheerful voice asked. "It's Hazel!" I shouted back. Jean opened the door, Scott was nowhere to be seen thank god. She seemed surprised that I was there. "What's up?" she asked leaning against the door frame. "I was wondering if you could try and straighten my hair?" I asked hesitantly. She just nodded and gestured for me to come in, closing the door with her telepathy. She sat me down on her double bed, she got the straighteners out and held them in the air with her powers, waiting for them to heat up. "So you're just going to help me with questions?" I asked, surprised by her actions. "I'm a telepath Hazel, not an empath." Jean just replied, checking her nails for dirt as she did so.
In just that short hour, me and Jean got well acquainted, to the point where we felt like best friends. "This was the best time I've ever had with a girl." I said smiling as we left her room together. "Yeah, I'm starting to wish I met you sooner." Jean sighed after laughing so hard. "So, how's it going with Logan?" She asked. "Uh...good? Not like you're expecting by the way." I gave her a small smile. She just laughed, "It's gonna happen sooner or later." Jean touched my arm. A burning feeling shocked my whole body from that one touch, as if Rogue had touched me, but I know this wasn't Rouge, this was Jean. A flash of a memory that wasn't mine appeared behind my eyelids, shocking me. It was Jean when she was younger, it was when she first met Scott, he had a bandage wrapped around his head and he was with his brother, Alex. How did I know that? But before I could look into the memory any more it was gone. Jean came back into my vision, the older version though.
"Hazel, are you okay?" she asked me. "Fine..." I gasped. "Is Scott's brother dead?" I asked out of the blue. "How do you know about Alex?" Jean asked me. "I saw him..." I sighed. Jean read my mind as she saw what had happened. "Hazel...I think your mutation has developed!" she squealed excitedly. "What? But I'm already a mutant!" I pointed out. "I know, but this...this is just amazing! We have to see the professor and show him this!" Jean exclaimed as she took my hand, dragging me in the direction of the professor's office.
"This is truly extraordinary." Xavier observed as he rooted around in my mind. "Jean is level 5, I'm level 3 and you Hazel are now a level 1 telepath." He announced. I did a double take. "I'm a telepath now?" I questioned. This was not what I was expecting to wake up to this morning. "It turns out your mutation hadn't fully developed until today." He pointed out, quite happy that he had yet another telepath. I then experienced another flash of a memory. It was Charles he was training with a bunch of mutants, Magneto and Mystique were there, along with Mr. McCoy, Alex and two others I didn't recognise. And then it was gone. "Another memory flash?" He asked. I nodded. "What did you see?" he questioned. "You could just read my mind, y'know?" I told him. "It would be rude if I did." He countered.
"I saw a team of mutants. The X-men." I announced as the name came back to me. "The first team of X-Men..." I trailed off. "You, Mystique, Eric and Beast are the only ones left now...right?" I asked hesitantly. "Yeah..." Xavier trailed off sadly, rolling out from behind his desk as he wheeled out of the room. Leaving me alone as Jean followed him.
Logan walked into the training room, expecting a few late hours of training so he could avoid the nightmares that plagued him. Only to find Hazel sitting on the steps leading up to the control room. So immersed in her thoughts that she didn't notice Logan walk in. "Hazel?" this caught her attention though. I snapped out of it. "What are you doing down here at this time of night?" He asked. "I wanted to take a break from the nightmares." I responded blandly. "Same here." He made his way over to the cooler and got two beers out. "I thought you came down here to train." I smirked. "Eh, it's too late for that shit now." Logan gulped down a quarter of his beer. I laughed almost silently as I popped the can open. "So what's on your mind kid?" He asked me from behind his beer. "You know you shouldn't call me kid. We're the same age y'know?" I questioned his intentions.
"I wouldn't be so sure about that." Logan chuckled. "Why? How old are you?" I asked, my eyebrows scrunching up in determination. "Uh...I know I was born in Canada in...the 1880s?" he questioned, unsure. "...wow. You just bring something new to the table every day don't you? I'm sitting with the oldest man on Earth." I laughed, it was an impossible thought. But here I was, doing the impossible. "I know right, I'm still pretty as ever though, mind you." He chuckled some more. "This is insane." I sighed airily. "So anyway, you didn't answer my question, what's on your mind?" He asked again. I looked away. "Xavier says I've got level 1 telepathy." I confessed, Logan gulped down his beer as if he was choking on it. "You're a telepath?" He asked, clearly shocked from the news. "Starting today, yeah." I sighed again. "How is that even possible? I thought you were already a mutant?" Logan asked, sort of. "Apparently, my mutation hadn't fully developed and now I have all the traits of a wolf. Since wolves can communicate telepathically, sending images back and forth between each other..." I finished.
"Now that is insane." Logan laughed. "So go ahead, read my mind." He invited me. "What? Are you sure? I mean I don't even know how to control it." I shrugged. "Go ahead." He nodded at me. Taking a deep breath, I sighed, closing my eyes as I faced Logan head on. He leaned closer to me until our foreheads touched, he was so close and then a flash came into my mind, it was Logan, he was fighting alongside Victor and a bunch of other mutants I didn't recognise. Wade Wilson was a name that flashed into mind. And then a new memory, Victor and Logan fighting in a war...no, all of them. It shocked me so much I got locked out of the memory and back right next to Logan. "That's a lot to take in." I breathed heavily. "What did you see?" Logan asked, his forehead still against mine as he looked at me with his eyes half lidded. I breathed in every breath he took and it was drawing me in until I snapped out of it, turning away from him. Blushing heavily. "Hazel..." Logan grabbed my hand, squeezing it. Asking me a question with his eyes. "I saw you...in the wars with Victor and with a team of people, taking down the bad guys." I answered before walking out of the room. Leaving Logan and my ice cold beer behind.
