So instead, I turned away from the fire, walking into the woods furiously. I didn't want mom to tell them everything, but she went and did it anyway. I knew someone was following after me, but I couldn't tell who since the smell of the forest threw off my senses. I stumbled through the woods until I got to the river's edge. I was done. "Hazel..." Logan gripped my forearm before I could go any further. "Don't look at me!" I screamed at him. "...why?" He asked after a long moment of silence. "I'm a freak..." I held back a sob. "So? Who else here isn't?" Logan turned my face towards me, gripping my chin between his forefinger and thumb gently. "...no one." I answered reluctantly. "Exactly. Now if you listen to me Hazel. You're beautiful even through your scars, your golden eyes entrance me even when they are filled with tears." He said as he wiped the falling ones. "You don't cease to amaze me, even when you're all blood and sweat." He smirked, making me laugh at him as I backed away. Scared of the commitment and possibly hurting him.
"There's something you're not telling me." He called me out as we sat on a log overlooking the lake that led to the waterfall. I turned away from him as I commented "I went out with your brother." He didn't respond. "I know, I kinda called it." He shrugged, I shoved him. "Why didn't you tell me?" I questioned angrily. "Because I knew there was no point, now answer my question." He held an iron stare on my face. "My wolf genes...they give me all sorts of mutations...one of them being, I can imprint on my soulmate." I answered hesitantly. His eyes widened in the corner of mine. I wish this could be over now. "Really? And I'm guessing you have imprinted on the lucky guy then." He called me out sourly. Was he...jealous? I nodded. "Who is he? I hope he's a good guy otherwise I'll beat him up." His face scrunched up as he said so.
"really now?" I started to laugh. "Yeah...why are you laughing?" He asked jealously. "Because...you still don't know who it is." I smiled at him, giving him a knowing look. "Tell me." He practically commanded. I decided this was it...time to take the fall. "His name starts with L...ends with N. He's really grouchy sometimes but I know he has a soft side deep down...I also know that he has tried to kiss me multiple times but I've rejected him because I was scared to fall." I looked him in the eye, he knew I was talking about him and he looked so happy. But I didn't know what to do now...I had told Kurt months ago, but this was different. It felt different.
"You...imprinted, on me?" He seemed to guess, but I already knew he had gotten the answer a long time ago. "Don't act so surprised." I laughed falsely. "It was a long shot." I stood up, walking away. But not before Logan grabbed my wrist, spinning me into his awaiting body. He stared down at me with animalistic eyes, his pupils blown wide...was he aroused? I was surprised by his actions to say the least. "Logan..." I whispered. I was so close to kissing him, it took all my self-control to not bite his bottom lip with my fangs. "We shouldn't be doing this." I tried to stop him. But he was leaning closer and closer towards my lips. I wanted to kiss him so badly...but something was holding me back. Call it instinct. I tried to step away from him instead, but God was thinking he'd rather fuck my day up. So, I landed in the cold water of the lake. "Logan!" I shouted as I resurfaced, the current carrying me down the water.
He sprinted down the river bank, "Hazel!" He roared as the bank ended. I thought he wasn't gonna follow me but instead, he dived into the water, unafraid of the consequences. I still couldn't swim and the water would swallow me up every moment I tried to paddle to the surface or something. Logan swam after me, gathering me up in his arms as he caught up with me. "Hazel! Don't let go!" He shouted above the roar of the water. We kept on getting carried down the water even though Logan had unleashed his claws from one hand, attempting to grip a rock with them. Staying there until we were safe. But the rock gave way and let us free to careen down the lake and towards the waterfall. "Logan, the waterfall!" I screamed in fear at him. "Don't die on me!" He yelled. "I'll try not to." I choked leaning into his neck. I was probably not going to survive this, but one could hope. "Don't let go." Was the final thing Logan said before we plunged downwards, the waterfall separating me and Logan as I fell to what I thought was my death.
I thought I felt a warmth press against my lips. When I woke up, Logan was leaning over me. His body pressed against mine, we were both soaking wet. "Logan..." I coughed. "You're okay now Hazel...you're okay." He kept on whispered as he stroked my face possessively with his hand. "Are you okay?" I asked. "You ask the guy with the healing factor that of course..." He laughed under his breath. "I can hardly breathe." My vision swam in front of me. "It's okay...the feeling will pass." He informed. "How did you save me?" I questioned. "I had to give you CPR." He told me. That meant...oh no, an indirect kiss and I wasn't even awake for it!
When we got back to the camp, the fire was going out. Everybody must've been in their tents. The pups were asleep on the floor with my mom in wolf form curled around them next to the fire. "You comin'?" Logan asked as he stepped towards his tent. "Nah...I think I should spend the night with my family." I excused myself. Spending the night with Logan...I don't think I was ready for that just yet...
-the next day-
Reluctantly, I had left my family to keep them safe. They said they would be leaving to join with my uncle anyway so they wouldn't be in danger. Which was good to know. "Welcome home!" Jean greeted us with Scott beside her. "Thanks." I sighed. I had dried off in the night thank god, but that left my hair slightly frizzy. I couldn't care less, as long as me and Logan were okay, I'm good. We had finally returned to the mansion after a long trip through the mountains in the school van. Everyone seemed tired from the journey and just wanted to rest, whereas Kurt went to join the rest of our friends in the wreck room who were watching yet another hockey match. "Welcome home guys!" Rogue welcomed cheerfully as I leaned against the door frame.
Watching my friends interact with each other happily, I knew I was okay with staying here for what I wanted to be the rest of my life. But one day I'll have to leave...I'll have to become my pack's protector like my father did before me and my ancestors before that. This was my calling. "You okay there?" Bobby called out, snapping me out of my daydream. "Yeah." I smiled sitting down on the couch. "Who's playing?" I asked. "Canada vs Virginia." Pyro answered with a bowl of popcorn in his lap. "Oh, Canada is going down." I laughed wistfully.
That night, I couldn't sleep. My senses were awake, as if every nerve in my body had been shocked awake by the ice cold water in my veins. That was when I heard it, the crash of glass, it was in the hallway. And then the silent tread of heavy footsteps. I recognised those footsteps from my nightmares...this can't be happening again. My door-handle turned slightly before the pursuer realised it was locked, I heard them walk away. Sighing to myself, I thought I was out free. But then the person took a running start to the door, knocking it down on his first try. The man rose his head up, my eyes met with those of a fanged face with pointed savage nails.
"Victor..."
